Just a thought, but given they are still legal & from a PHB, but not in the 2024 PHB, should they s

Yep, and despite claims of backwards compatibility and being able to use 2014, many DMs don't allow stuff from older editions. 2014 options cannot be assumed to be in play.
Are you talking about your table or trying to make statements about all tables?

Of course, by this logic, none of us can play 2024 D&D until next years since none of us have the rules for 2024 D&D. Absolutely every table playing D&D between now and when the final book is released is playing a mixed table, which, apparently, DM's won't allow.

So, I guess no one is playing 2024 D&D until sometime next year. Good to know.

Neither. It's a fact that there are many DMs who don't go outside the edition that they use in what they allow. Some don't go outside the core three books. So not talking about my table. I'm also not talking about all tables, which is why I said "many," and not "all."

Right. This is a discussion about 2024, not a statement that we are playing 2024. It won't be possible to play the 2024 rules by RAW until all of the books are released. Until then only homebrew versions can be played.

Really? Many tables? How did you arrive at that number since currently EVERY table is allowing material from between 2014 and 2024 rules. Maybe if you would only talk about YOUR table and not try to speak for other people, this conversation would be a lot more productive.

Anyone else ever notice how all these "problems" seem to be happening at these tables that no one is actually playing at? How it's always this nebulous "they" and "many" and "of course" presumptions of how other people play the game that seem to be causing all the problems?

Thinking about it, it's actually really funny.

All I hear about is how WotC only cares about maximizing profits and monetizing the game. Yet, if we're to believe the posts in this thread, half-elves are FANTASTICALLY popular and by removing half-elves from the game, WotC is stumbling badly and completely misjudging the fandom. That there are untold masses of players out there that will absolutely freak if half-elves aren't included in the game under a separate entry with their own "unique" mechanics.

Or... perhaps WotC actually does have some idea about how popular half-elves actually are, and have some idea about how well received this change will be. Time will tell.

But, still, it would be nice if people would simply speak for themselves and stop trying to claim some position of popularity with no real evidence to back it up.

It isnt. Its a combination of 5e and 5.5e.

If its not in the 5.5e book, its not a 5.5e option. Its a legacy hold over awaiting a reprint.

So if I use any 3pp material (such as monsters from TotV)!I am not running a 2024 game either? Only officially sanctioned products count?
