Should Dumb Players Be Slapped?

I'm a big, big believer in the cluebat:

Dumb players are already being punished by doing dumb things in and out of game. Their characters die more often than smart players' characters do. They screw up the plot and blurt out the wrong thing at the wrong time. They kill the helpful, friendly NPC because they are suspicious when he/she is so helpful.

In short, they make their gameplay more difficult and probably less fun for themselves and everyone else involved.

But is that enough?

Should a DM have the right/obligation to slap a dumb player?

How dumb must they be before slapping occurs?

Do they need to sign a waiver first?

What do you mean 'should'? Are you saying dumb players aren't regularly being slapped by their DMs??!!!

Just a thought: when you slap, you may be adding brain damage to the equation.

How about the favorite of girlfriends with clueless boyfriends everywhere- a quick punch in the arm?

Make the dumb player also wear the Hubcap of Shame and not only have the DM give him the Slap of the Wrathful DM, but also the other players should be allowed to invoke Backhand of Humiliation to the dumb player as well. Players whose characters have died because of the dumb player's actions are allowed to follow the Backhand of Humiliation with the Oratory of Condemnation of Stupidity and granted an additional 1d2 Backhand of Humilations (DM rolls). Harsh DM's may allow 1d3+1 additional Backhands for players whose characters died.
