Should I even bother with 3E anymore?

I would go ahead and buy the adventures, especially if you think you will buy into the Digital Initiative. Why? Well if you want to use a module form any previous editon of D&D you just open up your DI account and tell it what characters you want to build and it will help you do it in very little time. Presumably with monsters too.

So conversion will be easier than ever before.

As for the HB books, they claim most of what they have coming out is "4E Preview", whatever the heck that means. Guess its going to be low on crunch and high on fluff.

I wouldn't buy anything unless you need it for the campaign your running right now.

I did say "especially if". I didn't want to go into possible reasons why someone would not.

If it does work that way, and allows you to print it out, directly or indirectly, conversion alone would make it worth buying a months worth of time.

I mean with 4e on the horizon (so to speak), should I even bother spending anymore hard earned $$ if 3e is going the way of the dodo? An adventure or so to pass the time, maybe, but what would be the point of buying anymore supplements if they are going to be obsolete within the next year or so?

I usually buy that kind of stuff used for half price. Well worth it. I'm working on a WEG DC Universe collection right now.

(Shrug) If you think you'll get your money's worth from it in the next year, sure. That's your call, man - no one here can tell you if it's worth it to you or not. What do YOU think?

I will be buying all the 3.5 WotC books I do not have in my collection, because I cannot see my group changing all the quickly and completion sake. We have invested way to much $ to change and have at least 3 adventure paths to play through, so we have all the gaming stuff we need to go for a while.

I will buy the 4e PHB, just to have a look.

QFT.

That mindset is why I own some GURPS books even though I hate the system.

I'm with you there. I own a buttload of cool GURPS support books, and never really had any intention of using them for playing GURPS. They're just neat to read.

When it comes to anything the question is: "Will I get my money out of it before its no long useful?"

There were serveral 3.5 books I haven't gotten that I was planning on but now I am not so sure. The upcoming book of villains, on the other hand, and maybe the recent MM will likely see pleanty of use before a 4e campaign sometime late next year.

Ain't it mostly Web-based? I mean, I expect that virtual tabletop is a separate application, but surely the rest of it will run on whatever halfway-decent browser you might have, regardless of OS or horsepower.
