Should I even bother with 3E anymore?

I'm done with buying 3E, untill it all goes on clearance.

Really, I'm done buying D&D until 4E now. I'll save my money and buy PHB, GMHB, and MM as they come out along with some the other stuff.

Ain't it mostly Web-based? I mean, I expect that virtual tabletop is a separate application, but surely the rest of it will run on whatever halfway-decent browser you might have, regardless of OS or horsepower.

I would imagine, like most of this type of stuff, that any PC that was made in the las few years should have no trouble as long as you have a high speed connection. But, who knows.

I've personally been done with buying 3.5 rulebooks for about a year now, but that's mainly because I have all I need. And that's precisely why I won't be bothering with 4E. I have all I need.

There's no need to burn your 3.5 stuff when 4E is released. You can still play it! It won't be supported anymore, but WOTC won't be passing any laws saying that 3.0 or 3.5 is illegal.

Books don't become obsolete unless you choose not to use them. Remarkably, there are several communities of people still playing OD&D, AD&D, etc. And, shockingly, those books work just fine ;) If you want to continue playing D&D 3e (as I do), yes, you should continue buying books for it. If not, no.

I mean with 4e on the horizon (so to speak), should I even bother spending anymore hard earned $$ if 3e is going the way of the dodo? An adventure or so to pass the time, maybe, but what would be the point of buying anymore supplements if they are going to be obsolete within the next year or so?
Well, surely this depends on whether you want to switch over to 4e or not, right?

Given that the current buzz says that 4e is not going to be largely compatible with 3e, I'd say that if you are planning to shift to 4e, then save your cash for the new edition. If you still think that you are going to run/play 3e games, then go ahead and keep buying it. There are enough 3e products to keep you in gaming forever, whatever 4e looks like.

Any book that has OGL stuff in it will still be viable to me as I plan on doing some fun stuff with it IMO. So if it has OGL I will consider getting it. Which in affect means no post 3.0/3.5 SRD WoTC stuff. other than UA.
Argh! An offender- another kitten I must drown.
I plan on doing some fun stuff with it in my opinion?
Dizzying! :)

My home group still plays 3.0. (shrug)

Not to concerned. I'm more concerned about playing than buying. I've got a ton of great material (much of it from excellent 3rd party publishers) that I plan to get use out of for a long time.

If I tire of 3.5 or someone I want to play with offers to run a 4e game, I'll play that too. I won't likely be the impetus for such a game.

Edit:

I should also add that, should all my products I would like to leverage get stale, I will probably start using the Fantasy Craft[/i] rules announced by crafty games. It sounds like many of the sensibilities that it sounds like 4e is catering too are not in line with mine, but many of those for Fantasy Craft are exactly what I want to see.

Same here...

While there are numerous detractors on this site I personally kinda like the Palladium Fantasy RPG (though I am not a big fan of Rifts). It needs to be "house-ruled" a bit but I don't think I'll have to worry about new editions any time soon. :)
Rolemaster is another one that I've been thinking about getting back into. Castles & Crusades is always there for me too.

I've got an electronic project that involves OGL material. I was posting before I usually wake up so that had to do with that gibberish.

C&C is sweet. I also just snagged a copy of the new Elric of Melnibone RPG (ala Runequest) on eBay for £11 the other day, and am itching to give that a go. Blood and souls for my lord Arioch!
