Should I hurt my DM for....

Nope, nobody said treasure was supposed to or had to be keyed to your character. I actually much prefer these types of games- it takes characters down aspects of the game and roleplaying few people consider. You could give it to a paladin in exchange for a favor to be named later, sell it, decide to pursue paladin traning yourself (perhaps explaining it as holy visions from having the sword), etc. Don't be pissed about it- think about how many possibilities have opened up.

First off, you should never hurt your DM. Just for the thought you should bear gifts of munchies to your next game as pennance.

If the sword was "given" to you as some kind of gift or something, I would hope the DM has a good reason for it (perhaps he's giving you a subtle hint he wants you to multiclass?).

Sounds like a valuable trade item. Why would your character bemoan such a boon?

I would hold out for a spellbook with at least level 5 spells within if not level 6. Then again it could trade nicely for a decent wondrous item. (Shrugs)
