the fighter could get the rogue's light weapon stuff and the ranger's ranged weapon stuff but the rogue and the ranger get other non weapon stuff that the fighter doesn't get, they can share features when it comes to weapons.
Rogues were never snipers. And we're back to the fighter eating the rogue's lunch.
You might have an argument there but the Ranger sniping was always spell based. And the poor Ranger.
I'm legit interested in what you think a rogue should be doing that a fighter cannot do...Rogues were never snipers.

Not really. The rogue's thing is not sniping. It's sneak attack which is better than a superiority die to deal extra damage and even more so being a skill monkey which the fighter couldn't begin to touch on his best day.And we're back to the fighter eating the rogue's lunch.
Most of the class name is range, yet...And the poor Ranger.

Picking locks, picking pockets, sneaking like fighters wish they could sneak, hiding better than fighters can hide, and on and on. They're primarily skill monkeys.I'm legit interested in what you think a rogue should be doing that a fighter cannot do...

Sniping is hitting a vulnerable location by help of advantage gained from hiding. That is literally a form of sneak attack.Sniping isn't sneak attacking. It's sniping.
So what. Scouts from 3e had a form of ranged sneak attack called skirmish I believe. Rogues don't and shouldn't have a monopoly on that sort of attack.Sniping is hitting a vulnerable location by help of advantage gained from hiding. That is literally a form of sneak attack.
