Sight Questions

Hey there, I was reading up on sight, and the most indepth answer I could find more or less told me, so long as nothing is blocking your line of sight, you can see whatever it is your trying to see. But there has to be a limit, even the D&D world isn't flat.

So is there any form of document to show how far certain races can see at most, and maybe some modifiers for say, illumination, or size of object, or is that all up to the DM?

Not that I'm aware of, but that is already calculated into the stats.

I know that with the proper feats, classes and magic items an archer can hit something at least 1/2 a mile away.

Long Range spells at 20th level can get up 1200 feet without feats.

So as long as it is well light, the limits are already in place. Of course, I've only seen this situation come up a handful a times and it is fun for the PCs to actually enjoy those little moments.

A high mountain can be seen from about 70 miles away in clear weather, assuming normal Earth curvature.

On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Moon.

while i understand that, look at how small that mountain or the moon seems, at a certain distance, small things just arnt noticeable. i try to make it make more sence, like in dence forest 5 feet for light cover, 15 for full, in not-so-dence 15/30 but i just had a situation the other day where they were shooting bows and spells at about 200 feet. i figured they could see eachother, but i wasnt sure if they're rules, just made me think ^^

hmm that wilderness stuff wasn't what i was looking for, but its amazing information i will DEFENETLY use ^^

Well a soccer field is a little over 300 feet long, so that shouldn't be a problem.

lol well i know it wasnt a big deal there, just wilderness stuff (which the pervious post pointed out an excellent resource for me) but just the idea of having such long distance combat got me to thinking, so figured i would ask.

On a perfectly level field with no slope at all, you could see another human up to about 3 miles away before the Earth's curvature would obscure him from view. That's probably a reasonable upper limit on vision.
