Voted option 4, but possible 5. I'd avoid 4th Edition like the plague unless and until it turns out to be an actual improvement, rather than a cr4pt4cul4r miniatures-wargame-encounter-based-l33t-$p34k-4ud13nc3-money-grubbing-cop-out.

Just as I've avoided 3.5E for the most part (having gotten not even one 3.5 piece of material from WotC, though I continue purchasing issues of Dragon Magazine and an occasional issue of Dungeon from Paizo, at least until the end of next month).

I may soon buy a copy of the Tome of Battle, but only to tweak for proper usage in my true 3E campaigns, and only because it is the single cool idea WotC has had in recent years (IMHO of course) that they didn't poorly and too-hastily implement.

I've only dealt with 3.5E as an observer/discusser and occasional player because my traitorous bas- err, gaming comrades converted to that heretical 3.5E Revision, and I am reluctant to abandon otherwise-good people and campaigns that I had already joined while they were true 3E (and I've started participating in some PbP games, but again only because I would rather game with good people even if they're using a system I don't like).

I'll play Warhammer Fantasy when I want to focus my time on minis and serious strategy, thankyouverymuch.

I will definately buy the 4e core rulebooks. I will not switch over any existing campaign to the new system. However, I will switch over to the new system for any future campaigns unless the new system sucks, or my players rebel.

We've got something like four D&D 3 campaigns going. We haven't used the tenth of the material available in our D&D 3 sourcebooks.

So, I'll stay with that. I don't want to convert a campaign to another system.

If I use a new system, it'll be for a new campaign; and I'd prefer to conclude the existing ones first.

Furthermore, there's the OGL question. I'm too accustomed to having the SRD online to check stuff without having to go search a book (that may be left in another house). If D&D4 is not OGL, that's a big flaw for just this reason.

I'm looking forward to 4th Ed.

I have been playing oD&D and AD&D way back when.... A few years ago I got reintroduced to the game and wanted to play again, the jump seemed a bit difficult because of the familiarity of the D&D/AD&D game.

Now I hope I can start over and find a group to once again experience the childhood fun of playing Dungeons & Dragons.

I'll buy the core books, no question.

After I get a good look at the core I'll make my decision about a full transition (and depending on where in a campaign our group is...)

I run a campaign and play in a campaign.

The one I play in is FR, and basically uses everything WotC that's not for another campaign setting with a few exceptions. (Incarnum, Psionics, Tome of Magic, Book of Nine Swords)

The one I run has a set book list because I strongly disliked the changing nature of the rules if the other campaign. (Though we were core + complete, and then they started a second round of completes we're allowing.) The last campaign started when only 2 of the 3 core 3.0 books were out, survived a 3.5 update, and finished last year. This one picked up there.

The game I play in ... well, depends on the DM. He sinks huge amounts of $$ into WotC products - is he going to toss that and continue to spend $$ on the new edition or stay with his existing investment? Who knows. I do know that I long ago stopped trying to keep up with purchases to have everything for this game and we borrow them during a session.

In the campaign I run, I'll finish out 3.5 with about a 90%-95% likelyhood. That's 2-4 years by some rough estimation. I run slow campaigns that meet every other week and have a waiting list to get in but almost no player turnover. We set the books because we didn't like rules changing with new stuff. On the other hand, I had introduced the Magic Item Compendium (good for a lower-then-average wealth world like mine), so anything is possible.

Someone else mentioned 4.5ed. Well, I'm in a gaming position where I really can see how it does shake out before chosing which way to go. I will evaluate the core books, but if that's purchased or borrowed is unknown. I've got time.

Cheers,
