I can tell you that, quite honestly, I am not switching to 4e. I did not switch to 3.5. I played first edition for years and years. Second edition I played briefly when it first came out, but largely ignored it. I came back to D&D with 3e and have been happy playing that ever since it came out. I found 3.5 to be unnecessary, and I find 4e to be even more unnecessary. I have not bought a WotC D&D book in ages (with the one exception of the Magic Item Compendium). I don't see a need or reason for me to purchase a new edition. I know why Hasbro/WotC is doing it, I just don't agree with the profit motive in this case.

I am happy with the version I am playing. When I am done with my current campaign I think I am going to switch to GURPS, or maybe play some Traveller. About the only way I am going to get 4e is if someone buys it for me.

I voted I will probably note switch to 4E, but will evaluate it.

I'm not a big WotC fan by any stretch of the imagination, and I'm not likely to switch over to 4e. But I am interested in reading the core rules to see what they do/change, and see if there are any ideas worth stealing for my C&C games. :)

I expect I'll be sticking with my SWSE conversion. If 4e ends up compatible with that, it'll be handy. But I'm not jonesin' for it.

Gee, if only they had a print magazine they could use to fire up my enthusiasm...

I'll check out the previews they'll be posting. If it turns out to be interesting, I'll pick up the Player's Handbook. If that too intrigues me, I'll buy the rest of the core books and switch my campaign setting over. If it doesn't interest me...well, I don't think my 3e books will burst into flame when I use them.

I can't really say I'll switch since I never 'switched' from other versions.

It is a game. I'll play whatever is fun and the DM (or myself) is willing to run.

If I can take 4E and change it to 3.5E rather easily with not much work I'll consider 4E. If I can take ALL my 3.5E material and easily adapt it to 4E, I'll consider 4E.

Otherwise, WotC can rot away at its core for all I care. How long will it be before 4.5E or 5E? It's only been 5 years since 3.5e was released...expect to see 5E in the year 2011, everyone!

Screw WotC.

Not sure what I will do since I don't currently have a D&D group. I convinced my old group to convert to 3.5, and within a couple of months three of the players ended up moving away and the group broke up. I've played in a couple of short-lived groups since.

The thing most likely to bring me into 4e will be the online tools and gaming. If they execute it really well and make it simple for me to run a virtual tabletop game with my friends in four different states, they might be able to convert all of us.

Of course I say all this, but the odds are by May I will decide to buy it, even if I never play it.

I'll almost certainly buy the core rulebooks (the previews would have to really turn me off for that not to be the case). If it's what I hope for -- a high-quality SWSE-inspired game that fixes the biggest problems of 3.x without introducing any new ones -- and if the SWSE game I'm going to run as my first foray into tabletop DM-ing is a success, then I may keep the DM hat in my tabletop group when we go back to D&D even if I need to buy 4e PHBs for the other players. If it turns out I'm a lousy tabletop DM, then it won't be up to me for my tabletop game.
