I have been silently observing things that are going on in the ISRP area and the general feel of the chat rooms. I thought that I would break my silence by not slamming things, not complaining, but bringing forth an idea for how to improve upon the general atmosphere.
I came into the ISRP Area the other night with a new character. Not a single soul took notice of me. I found myself feeling forgotten, unhappy, and left after 5 minutes. Yes that's a relatively small time, and yes this has been brought up on the boards time and again. I do not bring this up because I want people to feel sorry for me. I bring this up merely as an example before I provide my idea.
What I think this site needs is a feeling of welcome. We need to feel like we can bring in new characters and get noticed, or be accepted. I think if we were to establish a group of people who were willing to "welcome" the new characters it might make people feel like they are wanted, and they may try harder to play rather than coming in all "beat up" or "powerful". It might make this place feel more like a "community".
So, you might be saying "Right, I want to stop everything I am doing to talk to the new guy when I am working on a storyline." That's not my intention or thought at all. I think that there are enough people around that having someone comment about the weather, nod to the new person in polite greeting, or something of the like it wouldn't harm the rp going on and would make the new character feel welcome.
