Silver or Cold Iron Weapons

Remember that silver weapons have a -1 penalty to damage rolls.

I say cold iron for your primary weapon, and carry something silver as a backup.

mzsylver: I understand that Lycanthropes are vulnerable to silver. Are ALL evil outsiders vulnerable to cold iron?
Demons tend to be vulnerable to cold iron (their DR is either "cold iron or good", "good" or "cold iron and good"), while devils tend to be vulnerable to silver (same scheme). Not sure what, if anything, yugoloth are especially vulnerable to.

Putting aside the admittedly important game mechanics questions, Maxwell's Hammer is Silver, dude. You just cannot mess with perfection like that.

:)

On a (hopefully) more helpful note, I would suggest skipping Power Throw- somehow this guy does not sound like he would generally want to fight ranged; Brutal Throw just in case does make sense (at least, with a Returning weapon...) Another option to consider is improving or expanding your favored enemies- especially if you will give up one for your fighter levels:

Extra Favored Enemy
(Make up for those missing Ranger levels)
Pre: Favored enemy

Favored Power Attack
(Deal more damage against favored enemies)
Pre: Favored enemy, Power Attack, BAB +4

Improved Favored Enemy
(Extra damage against favored enemies)
Pre: Favored enemy, BAB +5

I know, rowport, I know.... ;) I just don't know how much I want the other players to moan and groan if/when I introduce the PC.

I had forgotten about the -1damage with silver weapons...I don't know if I want to give up damage for this guy. On the other hand, it covers both lycanthropes and devils, while Cold Iron only gets demons...

Where is Improved Favored Enemy?

I don't know Favored Power Attack-did I err and call it Favored Cleave or is it something else?

The throwing feats are possible because, although he's best close in, he'll still need a way do damage at some kind of range, and he's already going to be carrying around 20 pounds or so of weapons...

As a commoner (in social status, at least- and thus barred from carrying certain weapons in certain societies), maybe he'll just use a sling for ranged combat- though if he takes barbarian levels, spear or bow would be more appropriate.

You guys are really helping me out! Thanks!

Silver also covers many kinds of undead, wheras cold iron covers fey.

I still say silver wins hands down. A +1 sliver weapon will cost 2000 gp to enhance, a +1 cold iron weapon 4000 gp. No contest. :p

Which undead are you thinking of? Off-hand, I can't seem to recall any with DR/silver.

For me, I just can't get past the -1 damage penalty that silver carries. That's like having a cursed weapon almost. Buy a cold iron weapon, and some silversheen.

Vampire is the first one that pops in my head, but I know there are more from Libris Mortis and probably MMIII, though I don't have the books with me at the moment.
