Simple: Barbarian v. Fighter

If the fighter has weapon specialization, he's doing +2 damage....same as the barbarian does while raging. Damage potential between the two is actually the same, and the fighter can do more different things. With a better ac and not much lower hit points, the fighter usually wins. Especially if he's a dwarf, because then the hit point thing is balanced out...except against another dwarf. not to mention the fighter can have the power attack/cleave/great cleave tree *and* weapon focus/weapon spec and, say, combat reflexes by sixth level..when the barb has just gotten great cleave.

I played barbarians a lot, early in 3.0. That stopped after I was repeatedly thrashed by fighters.

Expanding the fighter's skill selection is very unlikely to break the game. I can't imagine you'll expand it much past what the paladin, ranger, and barbarian already have... and unless you do so, prestige class access won't be a problem.

Expanding the fighter's skills per level would make fighter a much more attractive multiclass for rogues, rangers, etc. I don't know if that would make a big difference or not, but I think not.

This thread has me thinking...

Barbarians have a much nicer skill set than Fighters. Would it be too much to give the Figher 4 skill points per level, and/or broaden his class skills?
