Simple question about Refl saves

No, but I can close and ready an action to smack him when he tries to cast a spell (so it doesn't matter if he's casting defensively) or run away or something

Enh. That sort of thing is what a readied Geas is for, anyway :)

Even if the mage did happen to prepare a stilled/eschewed/whatevered hold monster spell, I still don't think he would have much of a chance to use it...pin is very fun, and unless the mage is hasted, I don't think he could escape a pin and cast a spell in the same round

I forgot - you can cast spells while pinned anyway. So the stilled Hold Monster is still an option.

Funny

Cool. I start a thread with a simple question. Someone answers it. Then the thread goes on and on .... :) Love it!

Back to topic guys. Ok I forgot the casting defensively. Yeah he did it. As for the grappling. Shame on our mage who was polymorphed into a firegiant... He REFUSED to grapple that guy though the others already tried it and he spent his AoOs.

So I got this right: You always get your full dex bonus to your reflex save which you always get. And you only get AoOs against enemies you see or notice, e.g. you can locate if you don't see them (e.g. per scent).

Well. Before this drifts over to houserules cause I recite how I gonna handle it ... :) go on ranting about anything you like!

If you are flatfooted or an enemy that you don't have noticed yet casts something on you, do you get a reflex save (with penalty of no dex bonus of course) or not?

Similar question. 4 players surround and flank someone. He casts invisibility and walks away. Do they get AoOs?

Sorry for asking so simple things but I didn't find the answers on a quick check in the PHB.

I don't think you've received a _correct_ answer to your second question yet. Assuming the character casts defensively(or for some reason, the surrounding characters chose not to take their AoOs when he cast)...if he moves more than 5' immediately after casting(in the same round that he cast), he does, indeed, provoke an AoO. It matters not a wit that he is invisible. He is leaving a threatened square and he has done more than move. As per the AoO rules on p. 117 of the PHB, this provokes an AoO. That rule does not mention that you must see the target of the AoO to get it and the Invisiblity spell(nor condition in the DMG nor the Concealment rules) does not say that it somehow negates AoOs.

So by the core rules: moving out of a threatened square, after casting an invisibility spell provokes an AoO from any character who is elligible to take one(hits will have a 50% miss chance due to full concealment).

Now...it might make a nice house rule that full concealment prevents AoOs...but that is for house rules.

Remember...those 4 characters who have the caster surrounded are not just standing there like dolts(even once he is invisible). They KNOW he is there, they are probably poking their swords at him and trying to stab him. For him to move more than 5', he must drop his defenses and provokes an AoO.

Thanks for that page Uller.

But I can see the DM grinning and saying: he didn't walk away... duh :)

If he does something to provoke an AoO, the DM needs to let you know so you can decide whether or not to take one. Nothing says he has to tell you WHAT provoked the AoO, though...

But anyway...the best thing to do is just grapple the sucker. It is the Fighter's "Anti-Magic Choke Hold" ;)

Hehehe ... we tried and got the last AoO from Combat Reflexes... Then that polymorphed wizardfiregiant refused to pick him up and put him into his pocket. *grmbls* :)
