Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

Arnir, the documents do not register as magical.

Torrent responds to the rogue: "Well, I think this was the whole basis of our earlier arguments Lars: who gets this intelligence. I've been instructed to take it to Lyceum and Shealis is under orders to take it to Shahalesti. I definitely don't want to spill blood over this information, whatever it is."

"Indeed," says Shealis, "we both have an interest in acquiring this information. The best I can offer is to give you the name of my master. His name is Clathan, and he is a court mage in Calanis. Your powerful spell-casters in Lyceum could contact him via sending without any trouble. Presumably they could discuss this information once more is known. Alternatively, you could spend the rest of the night producing a copy of these documents. We have much ink and paper for your use and you would be free to sleep here."

Bannock inhales deeply with a gaping yawn.

"'Tis a late hour. To leave the city now, pains me as it does to leave it all, would be departing into the night, and the roads at night are dangerous. The city will withstand the siege for some time longer. Let's just copy the bloody things and go our separate ways in the morning."

He pauses to look around for a moment.

"Hm. I'm still not sure what we'll do about the heat."

Arnir nods "For once, I agree with Bannock. Let's copy these notes and have a rest. Shealis, will we be safe here? Hrmir - before making an ass of himself - mentioned something of a raven..or crow..following us."

"You should be safe Arnir of House Bowflight. As I mentioned before, nobody knows we are here and I know nothing of a raven or crow. It must be at least three bells after midnight, so let us all head upstairs and get started."

You follow Shealis, Larion and the soldiers upstairs where they take you into a large room with a table and a few chairs. Some clutter of dishes and foodstuffs are removed from the surface and one of the soldiers sweeps up the floor. The other heads to another room and then returns with a handful of lit candles which he places about the room. A large stack of papers and a few bottles of ink are then delivered and the original contents of the case are spread out on the table.

"Feel free to lay down bedrolls and rest. You have about four hours until sunrise and then another two or three before the city gets up and moving. I doubt most of the inhabitants of Gate Pass are sleeping tonight anyway. Either I, Larion or one of my men will accompany you in the room at all times. Assembling a copy is up to you, but we part ways a few bells after dawn. You'll have to procure your own way out the city and the original documents are coming with us. I'll have one of my men brew some tea. Good evening."

With that, Shealis and Larion leave the room and one of the elven soldiers sits on a stool on the corner of the room. The other heads downstairs to put a kettle on the fire.

GM: Its up to you if you would like to make a copy of the documents and no skill check is needed. At this point, the elves are done negotiating and discussing. Presumably, if the group is amenable to copying and you each help out in shifts, you'll be able to make a copy of everything by the time Shealis needs to leave. However, most of you will be up late as you need to copy out everything exactly, and won't get as much rest as you might need. Spellcasters can memorize new spells and you'll gain your level back in any lost hitpoints (i.e. level 2 gets 2 hit points back if lost). However, because you're working, you'll all need to make constitution checks vs. DC 10 in the morning or be fatigued for the day (fatigued = can neither run nor charge and takes a -2 penalty to Strength and Dexterity for the day). To save time I'll roll these for you as a group.

"I have no skill at letters, so I cannot help with any re-copying. Maybe I should sleep." Lars takes a quiet corner and lays out his bedroll.

Kirio stiffles a yawn and looks at the task ahead with no small amount of dread... "alright, I'll take the first shift at copying these damned things, so long as it helps us get out of the city quicker. Speaking of which, how are we doing that exactly? Shaelis will not help us. Do we try for the council member in the morning??"

Laying out his bedroll, already becoming half asleep, mumbles about the way out of the city.

"The nearest southern gate might be... *yawn*... passable. There should be citizens crowding out of the city.

He lays down.

"Ahh. Then we can try... old Elf Road... through Innenotdar. 'Cept I don't know how we'll...."

His eyes flutter closed for a moment, then snap open wide suddenly, as if a light has gone on in Bannock's mind.

"Griffons! We can ride griffons!"

Then his lids float shut again, and he is asleep.

OOC: Bannock removed his chainmail before laying out his bedroll, so he is sleeping unarmored.

"I'm pretty sure I can get us out, Kirio, if we can look a bit like a few guardsmen on official business escorting some elves, I can get us out. I can look a lot like city guard officer when I need to, I've done it in the past. I'm sure Alric and Bannock can also look like guards accompanying an officer."

Arnir nods "For once, I agree with Bannock. Let's copy these notes and have a rest. Shealis, will we be safe here? Hrmir - before making an ass of himself - mentioned something of a raven..or crow..following us."

"I may not know much you about the arcane arts, but I do know animals. There was a crow that was following us. If it was scavenging I would have know. Plus with all the fire and noise it appeared to be quite calm. I don't want to be asleep if we are attacked, so I will help with the copying, but I will need to take an hour to memorize my spells. Is anyone hurt badly? I can cure some light wounds if necessary."

Arnir takes off his backpack and cloak and places his head on the pack with his bow, in hand, beside him and then covers himself with the warm winter cloak. with a yawn he says "Kirio, wake me when you need some sleep. I will continue."

Before drifting off, he ponders the crow Hrmir saw:
I wonder if I know of anyone with a crow....Diogenes mentioned he was fond of ravens back at the school...
