Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

Bannock, your powerful attack on the horseman pursuing Hrimir is yet again deflected by his chainmail, which has now been battered by your blows and melted by the dwarf's acid. As a result, your balance is thrown off and you are unable to continue your assault on the mounted warrior.

GM: Bannock, your initial attack missed, so your cleave did not trigger.

Just a quick note on Bannock's post for everyone: We're not using Action Points. We are using the 3.5 Core rules, as stated here: Rules Reference Six from Gate Pass The 3.5 Core Rules are all the rules listed on the left hand side of this page (The Hypertext d20 SRD (v3.5 d20 System Reference Document) :: d20srd.org) under the title "Core Rules." The Action Points are from the Variant Rules and are therefore not being used. If you're ever curious about what is in, or out, please let me know via email and I'll clarify. Cheers.

The horseman, trusting in his sturdy armor to continuously protect him from the glaive-wielding warrior behind him, steps deeper into the foliage in hunt of Hrimr. Bannock attempts an opportunistic strike as the horseman enters the foliage, but yet again, damage is only dealt to his enemy's armor. Pushing the snowy brush out of his face, the horseman steps forward (to K3) and tries to stab the dwarf with his longsword. Through the covering bushes, his sword connects and drives deep into the Hrimr's stomach, splashing the snow crimson with blood. He sneers: "Aye, ye burned me good ye mongrel, but I'z be gittin' the last laugh by spillin' yer gutz!"

The mounted archer checks his wounds and spies Kirio and Arnir as the culprits. "Elves!" he calls, "I hate you and all your kind!" He then draws his bow and fires twice. One arrow streaks towards Arnir and its aim is true, but instead of striking the mage, it lodges itself in the trunk of a sappling mere inches from Arnir's chest. The other arrow travels towards Kirio, but is deflected by the plate armor of the greatsword-wielding horseman.

The half-orc scout (at K11) reloads and fires a bolt at Bannock without success. Likewise, the half-orc scout (at D12) reloads and fires a bolt at Torrent, but it is deflected by the nearby rocks.

"How marvelous for you!" Arnir calls out to the mounted archer. He already has an arrow notched and is drawing the string as the archer's arrow slams into the tree in front of him. He's slightly startled, but it only increases his resolve to end this man's life. With a grunt, he releases the bow and another arrow shrieks towards its target.

"You hate Elves?" Kirio shrugs and wonders how it is that he has gotten himself into a third battle in the space of as many days... "I think I need a new direction in life..."

Kirio again waves his arms forward signing three sharp notes and sends a greasy mist foward at the armored greatsword wielding maniac, in the hopes of unhorsing him...

OOC: I'm gonna post now, because at this point, I won't have another opportunity to post until late tomorrow night.

Something thrills Alric as the armored foe enters the fray. Its not a thrill of elation, but it excites him. Suddenly he has the desire to test this one's mettle.

OOC: Alric moves to F9 and attacks the rider on the horse. He's flanking the rider/horse since he's opposite to Bannock.

Alric, as you step up to the armored warrior you can clearly see that he shares the same nationality as you: Ragesian. He turns as to face you, just as your bastard sword slips between the plates of his armor. He grunts and grimaces, but looks determined to fight on.

As he prepares to focus his attention on Alric, his mighty warhorse begins to slip on the newly cast magical grease. The horse nays uncomfortably as its hooves give way and the heavy beast tumbles to the ground. The rider sense this coming and easily steps out of his stirrups on the way down. Upon landing (in F8), he calls out to Alric: "I warned you to surrender fool!" and then swings a mighty two-handed arc. The 6-foot blade catches Alric under his sword arm and drives deep into his torso. A cascade of blood splashes the snowy ground and the force of the blow almost raises Alric off the earth. Ribs crack and flesh tears as a horrible wound is left behind.

Lars pales as he sees the way it goes for poor Alric. Surely that was a killing blow.
Lars reloads his crossbow and shoots again at the half-orc below.

Lars your bolt drives down into the half-orc scout's gut. He bowls over howling in pain and slumps dead against the rocks and the cliff-face.

Torrent, realizing that it will be impossible to reach Alric without coming within range of the blood-stained greatsword, swallows a lump in her throat, raises her shield and moves to help her ally (to E8). "I'm coming Alric, hold on! Hold on!"

The enemy warrior, senses her movement along his flank and he strikes out with his blade. Torrent raises her shield just in time to feel the anvil-weight blow from the sword and then uses her wand to cast cure light wounds on Alric.

Hrimr takes a step out of the woods and toward the road (5ft to J3). As he does this he deftly pulls his shield with his free hand from his back (AC = 17).

He then tries to finish this horsemen with a blow from his heavy pick.
