Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

Lars listens to the banter with an amused expression while he arranges his pack. "We should probably bring those tents if we are going to travel overland in war-time. Maybe we can snag a mule or a horse while we are securing the guard uniforms. Torrent, do you have one we could borrow? What is the best road to the Lyceum by the way? Geography was never my strong subject."

Lars adresses Arnir, "So, if you can't use the sword, why are you carrying it? I take it that you can use magic, yes? Is that why you are on this expedition? It's better to clear out if you are a magic user. Have you ever seen a Ragesian Inquisitor? Women who hide their faces with the skull of a bear. They can sniff magic. Better not to mess with them if you can use magic." Lars visibly shudders as he prepares to leave.

Arnir turns to Lars with a sly smile "Oh, I can wield a sword just fine....I simply have more potent abilities. You're right about the tents though- they may well prove invaluable."

"Might I suggest procuring a means of exiting the city before we find Badgerface? Getting into and out of a guarded tower may cause a ruckus, and we may need to exit quickly afterwards.

Alric raises his tankard to Arnir, having come to like the wiry elf despite his caginess about himself and his less than friendly banter. "Something tells me that none of us would be here if we weren't formidable in some manner. I do not question your worth sir, however I hope you will trust us enough to cooperate with your skills in the most effective manner. If things become tense, please do not trust in your less than impressive swordarm and fortify yourself behind my shield."

Alric then takes a final mouthful of the ale, savoring the sweet-bitter bite of the brew. Not bad for the local swill. Perhaps a tad too fresh, but just the right amount of kick. "Shall we?"

Bannock, still in the process of loosing a torrent behind some trash in the alley, overhears the suggestions through the door. He is one of the few in the group who has spent his entire life in Gate Pass. He recalls some of his experiences in the city - boyhood adventures, trysts with girls, his errands as a courier for his father, and his merchant activity for their shop - trying to see if he could remember any passages or points of interest around the city or along the walls that might make ingress and egress to the Lyceum easier.

[sblock=What Bannock knows]Bannock, you know that both the East and Western gates are likely not choices given the siege preparations. Gates to the North lead away from Dassen (the nation Lyceum is in), so the obvious choice is to head for a Southern gate. Given the impending invasion and the winter weather, its likely that the only accessible route is the old Elf Road that leads through Innenotdar Forest which, for the past 40 years, has been on fire.[/sblock]

Bannock steps back into the pub from relieving himself in the alley, deep in thought, a sharp blast of winter wind accompanies him just before the alley door closes behind him. As he moves back towards the table, Torrent begins to wrap up the meeting.

Unfortunately Lars, I’m not in possession of any horses or pack animals. Perhaps we can add that to the list of favours we expect from Captain Herreman. As for your question Hrimr, yes the goal is to immediately acquire the case of intelligence and then move to make a hasty exit from the city.

I hear your concern Alric, but as I mentioned earlier, the depository tower is not an issue. I have an account there so it’s a simple matter of signing in and meeting up with Rivereye. We’ll have more time as the night progresses to discuss any new developments or to alter our plan.

Well, I think we have a solid path forward. We need to make contact with Badgerface in less than an hour. Lets pack up and head out team. With any luck we’ll…” Torrent trails off as she makes a quizzical look on her face and quickly scans her eyes across your faces. You notice that now, since she has stopped talking, the bells have suddenly and abruptly stopped ringing out across the city.

Lowering her voice to almost a whisper, she asks: “Does anyone else hear that?

In the now silent night, a sound rips out from above you:

Crrreeeeeaaaaaaaaaakkkk!

You immediately snap your eyes up at the ceiling as you hear the wooden floorboards from the second floor creaking. You all quickly realize that you’re likely not alone.

OOC: I’ve rolled everyone’s initiative from a pure efficiency perspective. Please follow the order exactly. You all are aware of potential danger in advance, so please tell me what you are doing, where you’re going, etc. over the next round. Refer to the map below and use the letter and number grid to tell me which square you’re relocating to (e.g. a7 to d3).

[sblock=Lars' Action]Lars drops to his knees for cover behind the table, and prepares his crossbow with a quarrel nocked (and 2 others close at hand), ready to shoot in direction of the stairs. (Ready action: Shoot at first confirmed sighted enemy)[/sblock]

OOC: I hid Lars' action, since it is not yet his turn, but I likely won't have access to this web-site before tomorrow noon at the earliest, or more likely, tomorrow evening, so I figured this was best.

OOC: I'll do the same.

[sblock=Bannock's move]Bannock drops whatever he was carrying, save his glaive, and advances to the middle of the room towards the stairs to give himself the space to use his weapon if need be. He ends movement on H-6.[/sblock]

OOC: Hey guys, I'm not going to have internet at home for the next week, and I'll only be able to post sporadically at work. So, I'll post Alric's first move since it might be a day or 2 until I can check the post again. Apologies.

[sblock=Alric's Action]Alric moves to the door at J8 (presumably where he left his shield) and picks up his shield and begins strapping it to his arm.[/sblock]

Pointy flying stick

Hearing the sounds from upstairs, Kirio grins, unslings his longbow and notches an arrow. He moves up to the bar (moves from 11 F to 10 F) and prepares to shoot anything hostile coming down the stairs using the bar as cover.

"Well now, seems you have an uninvited guest friend Torrent, any idea who that could be?"

OOC: I've added in Torrent's initiative to the original initiative post above. Completely forgot about her! I'll just add her action in here now and then she'll act in order next round. Sorry about that guys! Also, if the large dice icons are annoying, you have the option to set up a streamlined dice presentation (text only). You can adjust this in your account settings.

*********

Torrent draws her battleaxe, a well made weapon with a blade shaped to look like a wave, and slips on her light steel shield. She pads over to the wall between the furthest boarded up window and the boarded up door (H 10 to I 7). Turning back to Kirio she replies in a whisper: "I've got no idea what's going on right now. I was sure I wasn't followed. Were any of you?"
