Arnir Looks to Torrent and says plainly as he readies his bow "I saw no one, however this does not mean no one saw me..."

Then, speaking softly to his bow, he says "Come then Nefis, let us see what we can see." Closing his eyes, his mouth moves softly speaking the ancient words that will allow him to detect any magic in the area.

Start of Round 1

[sblock=Arnir's Detect Magic Result]Arnir, detect magic requires you to determine the direction in which you want to concentrate. Its a cone shaped emanation so basically the 90 degrees out from where you're staring. I'll presume you're looking in the direction of the stairs as you prepare your bow. You do not register any magical auras in that direction.[/sblock]

After arranging yourself around the pub and drawing weapons to an unknown danger, a new sound fills your ears now that the clanging of the bells has ceased. Distant muted heavy thumps fill the air, almost like the sound of ripe fruit landing on the roof of houses.

Suddenly, a gruff male's voice blasts from outside of the pub: "Front door, go!"

The front door smashes open violently, bits of cracked and splintered boarding falling to the ground. A sharp blast of winter wind sweeps into the pub and flickers the lantern light and tosses your hair about.

Two human thugs dressed in scale mail and wielding saps stand at the now gaping front entrance. They drop a portable ram on the ground and strap small wooden shields to their arms. Crossbows are slung on their backs and short swords sit sheathed on their belts. Each wears a red arm band with a black horse's head and script stitched into it.

The one standing in the opening grins a tobacco stained toothy smile and declares: "Drop yer weapons and come quietly. We don't want to break your valuable little heads!"

some real ol' sh%t happenin

Kirio quickly turns towards the door and lets fly his arrow at the thug in the doorway... (thug at J8)... he Curses as his arrow thuds into the doorframe and grins wildly at the thug "may not be so lucky next time friend"

He makes for the side door (move to G13) "we need to maybe think about relocating NOW!" As he prepares another arrow he racks his brain trying to recollect whether he has seen that crest before... and remembers; he calls out to the others "They're from the Black Horse Bounty Hunters, rumor has it the Ragesians are using them to round up magic users, going with them is NOT an option!"

[sblock=What Kirio knows]The crest belongs to a group who call themselves the Black Horse Bounty Hunters. Rumour has it that the Ragesian Empire hired them to capture magic users in Gate Pass and are offering upwards of 100 gold per captive.[/sblock]

Kirio, your arrow zips toward the thug, but thuds firmly into the door frame.

A ten foot pole

"Hahaha, come in and take us if you can!"

Bannock yells as he sidesteps in front of the doorway behind Alric (H-8). He gives the other fighter a firm tap on the shoulder and leans to Alric's ears,

"You've got the shield, I've got your back!"

Then the point of the glaive snakes out just right of Alric's head and over his shield, in a mighty snap thrust aimed at the poor mercenary.

Torrent and the Thugs

Bannock, your glaive slashes out at the lead thug, but he brings his shield up just in time to deflect the blade, and is rewarded by a shower of splinters and wood dust.

Torrent steps back a bit from the door (5ft step to H7), quickly sheathes her axe on her belt and lays her now free hand on Alric's shoulder. She closes her eyes and mumbles divine words. Alric, you feel a cool liquid presence seeping into your body and a faint smell of the sea fills your nostrils.

"May Istishia guide your hand Alric." Torrent whispers as she opens her eyes.

OOC: Alric, you have received a guidance spell from Torrent, which grants you a +1 competence bonus on a single attack roll, saving throw, or skill check. You decide which one, and you need to state you're using it before you roll any dice. The spell will last for one minute, or until discharged.

Seeing this, the second thug (at J9) grins widely and shouts out: "Oy, we 'av us a priest er somefin'! Git'r and lets fetch us golds!"

In an attempt to subdue the warrior before them and get inside, the two thugs strike out with their saps at Alric's head. The first thug strikes uselessly against Alric's shield, while the second thug's attack is unable to even get around the door frame.

Lars moves to a spot behind Alric (Move action to G7). He then raises his crossbow, steadies his arm and fires at the thug in front of Alric. (Fire into Melee (-4 Att, possible cover from the doorframe.))
"Damn!"

Seeing the thugs and hearing Kirio's warning to the group, Arnir moves slightly out of visual range of the thug at the door (Move to I-13), whereupon he nigh-on silently recites an ancient incantation, bow clutched in one hand, eyes closed. For a moment, or maybe two, his whole body seems to glimmer faintly with ephemeral light, before the glow fades away.

"It seems some added protection is needed in these...troubling times!"

OOC: Sorry this wasn't clear, but I cast Mage Armor - Arnir's AC has increased by 4 for 2 hours (AC=17)

Over the din of the battle Hrimr attempts to listen for any more movement in the floor above.

He then readies himself to throw a stone with his sling if an enemy comes down the stairs (enters E4).
