Six From Gate Pass - A War of the Burning Sky Campaign (3.5)

Alric looks slightly fearful and uncomfortable when Torrent touches him with the glowing hand, but shrugs it off and trains his attention towards the thug through the door.

Over the rim of his shield, Alric bears his teeth and gives a vicious feral smile to the thug through the door, giving him a silent warning that he will find only a slit belly in this pub.

Alric yanks his bastard sword free from its scabbard and thrusts it at the thug through the door (@J8).

Lars, your bolt is lost somewhere in the blur of armor and shields crowding the front door.

[sblock="What Hrimr hears"]Hrimr, you can definitely still hear the floorboard creaking, indicating movement above and away from your general position. However, its difficult to discern more detail above the clang of battle and the distand heavy thudding on the roofs outside. Those though, have begun to increase in volume, indicating that their getting closer.[/sblock]

Alric, your thrust strikes below the Thug's shield and finds a slit in his armor. Your blade tastes flesh and the cobblestones are painted red as you withdraw your steel. The thug's eyes go white and he howls in pain, but manages to hold the line.

Start of Round 2

Suddenly, two half-orcs bound down the stairs. They are both clad in studded leather armor, wield saps and have morningstars slung on their belts. Like the thugs in the doorway, they too wear a Black Horse armband.

Just after they arrive ... KABOOM!

The Poison Apple Pub shakes with the fury of an earthquake, and a deafening boom sounds overhead, as something strikes the building from above. Ceiling boards crack and buckle, with pieces of burning wood falling to the floor, and flaming oil leaks down into the room like a fiery rain. Overhead, a handful of blood-curdling screams sound out as additional unknown individuals are caught in the flaming burst and slain. A dying half-orc scout stumbles down the stairs, completely immolated by fire, before collapsing at the foot of the stairs. The bronze bust of Emperor Coaltongue falls off the wall and lands with a thud, and the stomach-turning scent of burned flesh and charred leather fills the air.

GM: At the start of your turn, you are required to make a Reflex Save DC 10 or take 1 point of damage as the flaming oil falls on you. Also, if you attempt to move through the burning debris on the floor (marked by fire icons), you must make a Reflex Save DC 10 or take 1d6 points of fire damage.

OOC: Hrimr, your readied action goes off, so make your attack on the first scout (the one in E5). Since your readied action triggered right at the end, you are also now on top of the initiative order and can complete your actions for this round as well. Keep in mind that your sling requires two hands to load, and you currently have a heavy shield in one hand.

New Initiative Order:

1 - Hrimr
2 - Half-Orc Scouts
3 - Kirio
4 - Bannock
5 - Torrent
6 - Human Thugs

8 - Arnir
9 - Alric

Poison Apple Pub Map - Round 2

As the half-orc bounds down the stairs Hrimr fires his stone as hard as he can at the new threat.

As the falling fire and flaming wood crashes onto the floor from above Hrimr lets out a yelp of surprise and attempts to jump out of the way.

Hrimr drops his sling and moves to the edge of the bar (F10)
"Well I guess these guys are for real, time to show them so am I"

Hrimr raises up his empty hand and suddenly what appears to be a Stalagmite appears in his hand. He then throws it at the Half-Orc at the opposite end of the bar.

Hrimr, your sling shot ricochets harmlessly off the bar, and flaming oil lands on your skin, burning you and dealing 1 point of damage. However, your dart of acid flashes towards the lead half-orc and splashes into his face, with a sizzle of melting flesh.

The lead half-orc scout, though still alive, drops behind the bar (at F6) clutching at his face and crying out.

The second scout (at E5) cries out: "Silence these witches and haul them in, they be worth 100 pieces of gold each!" He draws a small stone and whips it at the top of the bar in front of Hrimr, before moving forward (to G5). The small stone detonates loudly in the Druid's ears, but Hrimr shakes it off.

To add misery to the first half-orc, flaming oil pours down his back. Likewise, the second half-orc scout fails to dodge the fiery rain and grimaces as his flesh burns.

OOC: Please ignore one of those Thunderstone rolls, the server error'd and double posted. They both hit, so whatever. :)

Kirio curses again, moves forward (G 11) raises his bow and lets fly at one of the Half Orc Scouts (G 5) hopping his aim proves truer this time round...

He prepares another arrow and addresses his new companions "Gentlemen, lady, might I respectfully suggest that the Ragesians are raining fire down on the city, and that we should perhaps consider leaving now!"

Kirio, your arrow flies true and lodges itself deeply within the thigh of your target with a meaty thud. Blood pours down the leg of the scout and he releases a cry of pain, but remains in the fight.

Bannock grimaces at the new situation.

"Hrmph! New targets! Well, come and step through the fire then and face us!"

He launches another attack at the now wounded thug in the doorway.

Bannock, the fiery rain scalds you dealing 1 point of damage. Additionally, given the cover granted by Alric, your attack swings wide of your target.

Torrent, now surrounded by enemies and flames, cries out after being burned from the falling oil: "I think Kirio has a point. This place is coming down!" She then speaks a quiet prayer to her god: "Lord of all waters, protect me from the offspring of Kossuth!" and moves to G11 (and attempts to hurdle the fire at H9).

GM: Torrent is under the effect of a resistance spell, granting her +1 on saving throws for the next minute

Seeing a red blade emerge from his friend's gut, the thug at J9 attempts to distract Alric in hopes that his guard will be lowered enough for his wounded partner at J8 to strike true.

Doing his best to dodge flaming debris, Lars hops onto the bar (F9). "You're right, let's fall back to the side door!" Frantically loading his crossbow, Lars turns and takes aim at the thug at J8.

OOC: Ouch! That is some lousy rolling.
