Skamos Redmoon, the Pathetic Tiefling Wizard

Uh... We are talking about a character that was designed to show off the combat system of the game and thus, most of the rules in any RPG. Don't try to deny it folks.

In my opinion, any example character given to show off the "crunch" should be devoid of role-playing aspects since that's not at all what that character was designed for. It would be a waste of time to have any non-combat abilities.

The fact that people are even able to create ways to role-play him just by looking at the stats shows us at what little one needs to create a personality and role-playing potential for a character.

I've heard that from many with each of the classes. I wonder if action points will allow you to get off an extra spell.
Action Points allow you 1 standard action. So, yes, you can get off another spell.

Did they pigeon-hole the Fighter into just beating things?
Is the Cleric pigeon-holed into healing?
In this edition, these are what each of the classes are. It's not pigeon-holed. It's what it's made for. The Wizard is, for the most part, a blaster. He has the same name as a 3.5 class, but he's not the same. They could have called him Warmage just as easily. There are certain classes, though, that will be given other types of spells. This isn't the old class known as Wizard. This is a new class named Wizard.

Ironically, there's another thread where many people believe that the Sleep spell is the best per day ability of any character. So I guess mileage varies.
The elf sorcerer I played in my first ever 3.0 game could cast sleep 4 (?) times a day.

Of course, he only had 5 hit points ....

In any case, they've really pigeon-holed the wizard into simple artillery.
jh

My 4E dwarf control wizard with sleep, shield, divine glow*, web, and dimension door is awfully sorry to hear that.

* a cleric multiclass power.

My concerns about the class have been ameliorated by what I've seen in the higher level spell sheets. However, Skamos isn't representative of what a wizard can do. His spell selection was rather bland. The controller role involves more than leveraging damage across multiple opponents.
