Skill effects turned into abilities

While I'm sort OK with the feat part* the class abilities idea is the exact opposite direction of where I would go (and tend to go with my house rules.) I always found trapfinding obnoxious, and more "you can't use a skill you've invested in because we want that to be this class's thing" is not good news from where I sit.

*though I'm not a fan of feats which essentially remove options by saying "you can't do this without a feat" as opposed to those which improve an option.

I agree with you. I think that trapfinding, as an example, would be better served if it were something like +10 to finding traps with search skill and everyone else who does not have the trapfinding feat is essentially at a 10 point disadvantage at finding traps. Which means that everyone can search for traps and if someone dumped all of their skills into search they could still have a chance of searching and finding traps but again, not as effective as the character with trapfinding. I could see tracking done the exact same way.
