Skill Points for ECL Monsters

Ok, so how do you calculate how many skill points a monster with classes has?

Lets take the example of an Ogre Fighter level 1. Lets also assume Int 10 and the new ECL of 8.

Also, when choosing skills for the Ogre ECLs what skills are 'class' skills and what ones are cross-class?

An ogre with a 10 INT gets 8 skill points from being an ogre (6 base for being a giant-type, +2 for two Extra Hit Dice). Its class skills have already been mentioned.

Going from the DMG, a 1st level ogre fighter PC would get 2 skill points for that fighter level. I don't know if this is explicitly stated anywhere, but it can be inferred from the NPC charts in the DMG. Or, you could give the ogre 8 skill points (the normal for a 1st-level fighter). Presumably Tooth & Claw will explain the specifics.

Ok, I understand that. One related question. What would be the minimum number of skill points be for an Ogre?

For example, the minimum skill points for a normal 1st level character is 4. So is the minimum for an Ogre 4 or is it 6 (from the Giant type) ?

Also, did the Dragon magazine article say if an Ogre with one level of Fighter gets 2 skill points or 8 skill points for the Fighter level?

And an Ogre need a natural 18 put in Int to have 10 Int (DMG tables about ability assigning score for creatures with a penalty more severe than -2).

Myself, I would give them the 4×Int mod+BSP at first level, plus the skill points for being a multiple-natural-HD creature. That may seems a lot of points, but it's an ECL'ed creature -- you lose much, you know ?

Thank you for your input, however, I am looking for official rules. If I wanted House Rules I would have posted in the House Rule forum.

Heh heh heh... Yeah, but... um... nothing I said was WRONG, right? Heh.

Like everyone else said, Ogres would indeed get 6+Int MOD (not BONUS), so it's entirely possible to have a really crappy starting set of skill points. But hey, it's an Ogre. Though you will get +1 for each of the three remaining HD.

There's no minimum that I know of. It's 6 + INT mod + 2 (from the extra hit dice). A normal ogre has an INT mod of -2 and thus gets 6 skill points. The lowest INT mod possible is -4 (for a 3 INT), so I guess the effective minimum for an ogre is 4 (8 -4 = 4).
