Skillmonkey fighter?

Thurbane

First Post
Just tossing some ideas around in my head, and I got to thinking: whats the best way to make a single classed Fighter with a lot of skills?

High intelligence, obviously, plus being human for some extra points. The Open Mind feat gives you 5 bonus skill pointsand can be taken multiple times, Able Learner lets you get crossclass skills for 1 point, and Jack of All Trades allows you to use trained only skills even if you have no ranks in them.

The obvious choice would be to multiclass in a high skill point class like Rogue or Factotum, but I wanted to avoid it if possible.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Take "Thug" the alternate fighter class presented in Unearthed Arcana. They get 4Skillpoints per level, but don't get a bonus feat at first level, and don't get heavy armor proficency.

A fair trade, I think. Their skill list is also much longer & more useful.

Easiest Core Rules answer: don't restrict yourself to single-class. Fighter/Rogue is a brilliant multi-class. The multi-classing rules are there for your benefit, citizen! Use them!

Play a warblade.

I like hong's answer. I just statted one of these lads for a new campaign, and they're mucho fun, with decent skills selection (and having a high-Int actually works for them in more ways than just skill points).

Just be patient a little while longer, until the editing on Vikings D20 is done, then play a Viking. ;)

Yeah, I know, I'm a shameless plugger... :heh:
