The Cleric blinked in surprise, her lifeblood spilling from the wound in her neck. The figure clutching her drank deeply of her essence; drawing power from the dying woman. Sated, he let her corpse fall to the ground at his feat. Her Holy Symbol slipped from her hand, clattering to the floor, useless. The shock of it’s failure to protect her still evident upon her lifeless face.

He drew upon the newly acquired power surging through his veins and channeled it into his arcane whisper. He sent power outward, scattering the fallen Clerics companions like rag-dolls. In an instant, he was upon one of the fallen figures; his fangs silencing a scream only half-wrought. Once more, Blood Power flowed through him.

Among mortals, the dark, sensuous power of vampires is something to be envied as much as it is to be feared. But while the common folk envy their eternal life and unfading beauty, the more learned are jealous of their powers. In particular, they note how vampires gain a suite of special powers; but at the cost of having almost as many weaknesses.

Vampire scions are those who emulate vampires in order to gain greater magical might. They drink blood, but instead of using it to sustain their existence as true vampires do, they instead use that power to augment their already-formidable spellcasting ability. As they become more like the twisted creatures they mimic, vampire scions slowly gain similar powers, but with almost none of the commensurate weaknesses.

I'm glad to see a product featuring a 5 level prestige class. I think there's a dearth of shorter PRCs on the market. I'm kind of partial to them myself. ;)

Neat concept. And at .99 cents, how can you go wrong? :)

I like the cover. That might sound a little cliche and used but there is a slew of bad art out there - clip art and non-art that is standing in as covers. Even with this short product, here we have a real decent cover to look at. I'll be grabbing the download as soon as I can find the other 4$ worth of products to make the minimum download.

Thanks for the love guys. :)

I originally wanted to write a PrC for vampires only, specifically to help them gain magical power via drinking blood. However, that seemed a little too narrow, since it'd only help out one type of monster, and not all vampires are spellcasters. Thus the current incarnation of the Vampire Scion was born, allowing evil mages to mimic a vampire to augment their spells.

I've already downloaded it ( I don't mind the .35 cent fee). Although, I had no idea that the you and the author were the same person. :)

It's a solid little class. I'll post a review when I can find a few minutes.

I really love this idea - it'll fun to make an NPC and watch the PCs freak out thinking they have to go up against a real vampire :)

...I do wish you had included a low and high level example to round it out.

Sorry, I admit I fell down in regards to presenting more than just the class itself. I can promise though that the next cool PrC (already in production) will have a sample NPC as well as all the other trappings of a prestige class write up.
