Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (no spoilers)

Rumor has it the guy (whose name I'm too lazy to look up) behind Sky Captain has already set his sights on Edgar Rice Burroughs' "Princess of Mars" with hopes to do the entire John Carter of Mars series.
Yeah, check out this thread for the news. Although I don't think it's the same guy; this is the same guy who did Spy Kids and Once Upon a Time in Mexico.

Oh, and in neither King Arthur, Troy, Lord of the Rings nor Alexander are the battles "medieval", but maybe that's just me being pedantic. ;)

Robert Rodriquez the director of such movies as Desperado and the Spy Kid movies will not be at the helm of "A Princess of Mars".

Rodriguez and Paramount Pictures had a falling out over the filmmaker's recent decision to resign from the Directors Guild of America. Variety has reported that Rodriguez resigned from the DGA in protest over their refusal to allow him to co-direct Sin City with comic creator Frank Miller.

Kerry Conran the director of Sky Captain has taken over the duties of directing the movie. A much better choice in my opinion.

Huh. Interesting (and potentially good) news! I wasn't terribly excited about Rodroguez on that movie.

Success isn't a guarantee of more pulp films. After all, where have all the fantasy films been in the wake of the success of the Lord of the Rings trilogy?
Because they're in production. I know that the work of Tolkien's late friend, CS Lewis, is getting a major film treatment.

But on the subject of pulp films, Sky Captain does follow a series of them like The Mummy and The Mummy 2. And LOTR director is currently shooting the remake of King Kong (a childhood favorite and the reason for him being a filmmaker).

Went and saw a free screening of Sky Captain tonight... personally I loved it, as I'm a fan of the genre, but I think overall most people will be very eh about the movie. The movie went by fast... always a good sign of pacing. There were some pretty amusing moments into the second half of the movie, but the first half was more serious. Ms. Paltrow is hot in this movie, by the way. Audio was a bit unsynched in the first reel too, which stunk. Overall I'd give it a seven, maybe even an eight, but like I said I think most people will tend towards a five.
