Slaine

Crothian

First Post
Just seeing if anyone's playing this setting and what people think of it. I've been pretty impressed with it so far. But I've yet to have a chance to actually play it, just read the books.

I've been eyeing the book for awhile now. I think it looks really good and eventually Im going to pick it up. All the reviews have been encouraging. Even if I never play it I can still mine it for ideas.

I read the original comic-strips and there is some interesting material, albeit adapted from Celtic mythology. I've only had a glance at the rulebook - but it did seem a little... slim on content.

Haven't played it yet, but I want to soon so that I can get a feel for how it works so that I can start nicking bits that I like for my homebrew setting. Oh, plus my housemate (non-gamer) is now nagging me about running that game where she would get to be a Celtic hero. :)

I found it rather thorough on content. It did a good job of altering the rules to fit the setting as well as a good overview of the world. Granted it wasn't as thorough as say FRCS but I'd say it was about on the lines of Ravenloft.

I *yoink* from Slaine shamelessly for my Celtic setting. I don't use the Earth magic system, as it would have been to hard to subsitute it into the established campaign, but I did start using the druid class at a time when the party was "between druids" and the players all agreed to accept that "druids had always been like that." The Enech and Geis systems work well, too.

great stuff

It's a great book. Read the reviews in the review section. I haven't played it yet, but plan to as soon as all four parts of the campaign are available. (The first two parts are really great!)
Apparently it's up for an origins award. So there you go.

just wish it had a cool map though...:D

I think the rulebook is a great (though expensive for slim volume) d20 ruleset for Celtic roleplay, but somewhat lacking in detail on Slaine's world - to get that you have to cough up more cash for the sourcebooks. In this respect it's a bit like Traveller20 is for semi-hard sf, except Traveller20 is 442 pages plus adds and Slaine is 192 pages, much of it colour plates, at a similar price.

I haven't played it yet, but I like what I've read (the main book). I'm tempted to use it as a basis for Orlanthi Barbarians in Glorantha/RQ
