Slaves of the Dragon (orsal judging)

(Thanks, KO)

Farid looks around for more kobolds on their way to the torches. Assuming there are no more, he gives up his task of getting rid of torches in favor of collecting wagons. He's not trained in wagon use, but he can more than likely lead horses without too much trouble.

ooc: Ride +1, assuming ACP applies to leading horses...?

(I'll get back to the group catching the wagons later)

Even during the firefight, some of the villagers are less than enthusiastic about helping. It seems they only help because it's being done. Afterwards, the villagers literally split into two groups. Jeline has apparently become the spokesperson for one: "Easy? Safe? Maybe for some people" she glowers at the other group. "Those who didn't have to endure things like that Infinite Penalty. Those who didn't speak out against the Dragon. We, " she gestures to 'her' group "are thankful that you want to help us."

"Don't bother" another voice comes from the first group. You don't recognize the speaker. "They'll come to see what is left, and they likely saw it was no big fire, so they'll come in spades. And who knows, maybe some of them still wait in the tunnels. Who knows, maybe those sellswords are a bad omen for all of us?"

"Joran." Jeline sighs "What do you suggest we do? Wait for the kobolds and hope they only execute half of us? And stop that omen nonsense. Bad enough that poor Meras had to be confronted with that #### in his hometown and lost his child over it, now you're about to destroy our town with it."

Rover comes bounding in from the woods at Jack's whistle. Jack pauses as he gets ready to mount up, and mutters quietly to Katherine, "You want me to take a couple of the others and make sure the tunnels are clear?"

Katherine wrinkles her brow as she remembers that detail. "Damn, I don't want us to get too far behind them, but aside from stragglers, those tunnels may lead somewhere...." she thinks quickly. "The tunnels are sized for kobalds I'm sure, so Farid, Veras-re, can you help Jack check them quickly? You'll have to stoop less than the rest of us and be untroubled by the darkness. If you run into trouble or they seem to lead farther than the town edges, we will join you. Quarion, Gamma, can you stand by with me in case of trouble, or if you think gamma could scout the tunnels without you? The others can start following the wagons, they'll be going slow to look for signs the kobalds left the obvious trail, so we can catch up after the tunnel sweep. We'll send a quick runner to bring you back if the tunnels reveal another good option. Yes?"

(ooc: did we lose our halfing druid? also, who was the tracker in the wilderness party?)

OOC: Garma aided by Quarion was the wilderness tracker.
ooc: gah! ok, to amend the above plan, Katherine, opale, rika and planus can follow the wagons, leaving jack, the two dwarves and Thay (if he's still around) to check the tunnels, with quarion and garma as backup. Katherine will ask Jeline to watch nibbles for her (after she retreives a couple of bright silk scarves (entertainers outfit) so she can signal any unexpected change of direction to those following.)

Farid nods, "Well, we can have a look around the tunnels. Where's the entrance?" He looks at Veras-Re, "As if tunnels were just tunnels to a Dwarf."

"Well, Jeline, WE are aware that Grenton is doomed whatever. The sooner we leave, the better our chances. Don't waste any hero-worship on those mercenaries. Heroes... are long gone." Joran argues. "The tunnels? Just go in any house, except Marl's, and there should be a trap-door. Maybe covered by something."

(Actual adventure advancement later, common sense demands I should go sleeping.

Thanyvan's player dropped, and I'm looking for a convenient point to write him out.)

Veras-Re nods silently to Katherine's suggestion.

"A hole in the ground is a hole in the ground" The Psion replies to Farid's look with a very un-dwarven response. "The inside is what matters"

There aren't much ways he can help Jack except by sending in his scout first. When their little group is ready and they've found the tunnels, he sends the psi-crystal Liberitas some 30 feet ahead of the party. It may not move as silently as Jack, but Liberitas' size made it just as good at hiding.

Veras-Re himself will stay with Farid, walking stave in hand.

"Follow me," Jack says, pulling his magic lantern our from one of Rover's saddlebags, "I know there's one in Jeline's house."

Jack takes stock of his own personal brute squad on the way to the warrens: Himself, two tough dwarfs and a hefty wolfhound... Should be perfect for the job... No need for stealth down there... We just flush them out, and knock some heads.

Leading the way down the street toward Jeline's house, Jack watches Vera-Re's pet crystal skitter by. "Nifty trick, that," Jack admires, having not really noticed it out and about on its own before, "It doesn't happen to light up, too, does it?"
