"sleeper" spells you didn't realize were so good

Stone Shape. Coupled with a little preparation time, you can make some useful defenses... Works on worked stone so can dig emergency doors/passageway... most useful. Great burglary tool. Good for avoiding trapped/funny looking doors.

Soften Earth and Stone. Useful as it is... however combined with a cavern ceiling it's not very friendly.

Wall of stone. Creating a really tough wall is useful. However, this can be used to build bridges, fortifications or pretty much anything you like. Saved my bacon more once.

Looking back over that, I guess this means I play with 'stoners'?

I'll second that vote for Soften Earth and Stone. Our Earth Genasi Cleric actually slowed the Modron March with that...for a whole round, but he slowed it down!

From wich book does Polar Ray comes?
And what does it do?

In "Original d20 (1999)", penalties don't stack. In 3.5, I think they do, because they aren't named anymore. IIRC.

Blur. 20% miss chance doesn't seem like much, but we've seen this spell be used to GREAT effect in the past.

Another spell that I used to really love in 3.0 was DeathWatch. My cleric could use that spell to track the health level of all his ally's hit points, but a side benefit, was that it didn't just track his allies. He could use it to detect any monsters within the radius. Because the spell informs the caster of any undead, or constructs within the radius of the spell as well. Too bad they made the spell [evil] in 3.5.

Calm emotions. Not only has it saved our group from superior forces by preventing hostilities, but it's great when used on barbarians because it knocks them out of raging. And since you can only rage once during a given encounter, they're fatigued... :)

I also have to give it up for spiritual weapon. Not only does my cleric have a better chance to hit with it (BAB + Wis bonus instead of Str), but once I've sicced it on an opponent, I don't have to worry about it any more. If the opponent's killed, flees, or hides, the weapon returns to me and I just use a move action to designate another target. Great way for me to "fight" and cast spells at the same time.
