"sleeper" spells you didn't realize were so good

Hadn't realised the power of sending for keeping the party in communication with connections and sources of information, who can be in far-off lands and still kept in perfect contact.

In a previous campaign there was a gnome who used this spell constantly. But it was usually to dump water over other party members' heads when they irritated him. Never seen it used for productive purposes.Ylis said:Create water. This one comes in handier than I thought
I've seen web used very effectively before.
Back in 3.0 it covered enought area to "capture" most of a party.
Don't have feather fall? cast web at the bottom of the pit, cliff, chasm, what ever and just jump into it.
In some ways it is better than Wall spells because you just want the opponenets to try and keep coming at you.
Combo it with grease and you hold a person. Grease their weapon. If they drop it they must either a) pick it up and become held fast by the web, or b) ignore it for now and continue to trudge through the web to get at you.
Grease the ground below them. Simple movement requires them to save or fall (iirc) AND they have to make teh STR/Escape artist check to move in the web.
And speaking of grease, it is great just by itself. It's a ranged trip attack and a ranged disarm attack. If you have time to prepare, grease a slope that the bbeg has to come (hopefully running) down.
I saw shatter used as an impromptu KNOCK.
Stone to flesh to make statues become corpses to animate via ANIMATE DEAD.
Use silent image to obscure the sun's real location and make the image of a new sun where ever you want. Make people/groups/armies march in the wrong direction for hours.

Alarm.
Most people use it only at night, but you can use it to detect ambushes and inivisible foes during travel or combat as well.

I've used create water quite a lot. When my character used a mage hand to dip a glass container in to a pool of suspectible goo, closed it, and then cleaned the container with create water .. it was just one of those great moments.
