I'm thinking about issuing a house rule to speed up magic item crafting time a little.
As it stands now, crafting a magic item take 1 day per 1,000 gp value of the item, minimum 1 day.
I can't remember where (or if) I read it, but I believe 1 day of crafting is roughly 8 hours of work. If I'm just pulling that out of my butt, then so be it.
What I'm thinking about doing is allowing a magic item crafter to work through an entire day, minus 8 hours for sleep, and another two hours for eating, maintenance, and preparation of spells, for a total of 14 hours of work a day. This will effectively allow a crafter to complete 2 days worth of work. However, doing so will require a Concentration check (I haven't yet deterined the DC, but I'm considering an even 20). For every day of crafting in this manner, the DC of the check will increase by 1. Should you fail one check, you make no more progress on the item. Should the check fail by 5 or more, the item is ruined.
Would you consider this a good idea?
