Slow spell and attacks of opportunity

Minotaur tripper.... where do you buy your brains ;)?
Hey, *I* was curious as a DM. So I let the player play one.

In a SOLO game, mind you. Other PC's would be PISSED to play beside such a beast. It would be very boring for them...

DM: 15 mercs jump you. Roll init.
Player 2: My Sorc casts Haste (looks at minotaur player) happy now ?
Player 1: (Chain minotaur player) Thanks man. You're the best.
DM: a Merc approach the Palad...
Player 1: HAH ! AoO ! I trip him !
*roll* *roll* *roll*
Player 3 (Paladin): Ok, I attack one of the mercs.
DM: They're out of reach.
Player 3: Fine... I use Divine Shield and move next to the prone merc.
DM: Another merc is charging the Sorc...
Player 1: TRIP ! TRIP !
DM: *sigh*
*roll**roll**roll*
DM: OK, that's 2 mercs on the floor in all. Player 1, your init.
Player 1: I attack the two prone ones and Power Attack for 7.
DM: *roll**roll**roll* You kill them.
Player 3: What ? Why did you do that ? I was next to him !
Player 1: Sorry. I wanted to PA for good damage and maximise my damage roll.
Player 3: Can I at least do *SOMETHING* ?
Player 1: It's not my fault if you decided to play a stupid Paladin. Cast cure spells.
Player 3: MUNCHKIN !

As a house rule, it might be a good idea to change slow so that it gives a hefty penalty to attacks and AC instead of what it does now. Messing around with the action system (like the 3.0 haste did) is just asking for strange side-effects to pop up.

Back in 3e I house ruled haste so that it gave +4 to attack, AC and Reflex ST (nothing else) and slow so it gave -4 to attack, AC and Reflex ST (nothing else), these both worked quite well, and I still keep them open as an option for a different haste.

The standard slow is IMO far too deadly for its level - it can really cripple high level characters or anything that normally gets multiple attacks as it stands.

Cheers

"Quick! Slow me so I can Ready a Charge!"
