Smallville 12/01/04

I've missed the last three weeks of Smallville...is his secret totally safe or does anybody else know about it?
It's as safe as usual - that is, lots of people have almost seen Clark do some pretty weird stuff and suspect there's more to him than meets the eye, but no-one other than the Kents, Swann's assistant whose name I can't recall but she's played by Margot Kidder, and Pete Ross (who's been written out) know what's up. Well, possibly Lionel Luthor as well, depending on how much he remembers of being mindswitched with Clark.

What is that about Luther getting free?
Lionel had appealed his conviction (before the mindswitch with Clark). Someone pushed the appeal through and got him released.

I thought the hallucination sequences were pretty neat. >snip< I really liked Clark's and Lex's, and I find it interesting that Lex's was pretty much the same as the vision seen by that lady Cassandra in the first season. Although that may just have been WB recycling stock footage. :p

The vision which the lady produced had Lex touching a flower (after removing a black glove?) in a field of flowers. The first withered to dust then the whole field wafted away. As best as I can remember that is.

The nightmare was a whole field of 'fungi-like' flowers. Lex also had a pair of black gloves on.

Anyone think his body is going to find a way to adjust to the poison or are the visions just metaphor for 'all that you touch'. Heh, how much stuff did Lionel leave behind which Lex will have to clean up. Could be interesting how Lex will finally turn.

I thought the end question hanging like it did was great; from Martha Kent saying, "I'm sure one day you'll find someone you CAN trust" to Chloe's "If you can't tell your best friend" speech, they've really got me wondering if the first new episode next year is going to have Clark telling Chloe the truth.

As for Lionel, I am beginning to think he really IS a changed man - odd, but true. The only thing that bugged me was the appeal - don't you think the government would have told Chloe and her dad if Lionel were getting freed!?!?! The fact the Chloe's family is oblivious to it is a gaffe on the writers, IMO, or it could be another sign that Lionel has indeed changed, and the writers are "metagaming" a little bit, themselves.

Can someone bring me up to speed with everything since the Witches episode? I always seem to miss this show.

I got the following from www.tvtome.com - an excellent resource, btw:

After Lex is accused of killing a young woman, Clark sets out to prove his innocence and turns to an unlikely source for help - Lionel. Swearing he is a changed man, Lionel offers Clark insight into the crime. Meanwhile, Lana has a dream of Isabelle and a mysterious woman present - a woman who turns out to be a dead ringer for Jason's mother Genevieve, arrived to visit her son and his new girlfriend.

b: 17-Nov-2004 w: Luke Schelhaas d: Terrence O'Hara

NOTE: Jane Seymour is billed as "Special Guest Star."
Music by Faithless (No Roots - I Wanted More Pt. 2).

Lex's secret experiment at Luthorcorp goes awry and causes a dangerous toxin to be released into Smallville. Those infected by the toxin, including Chloe, Clark, Lana, and Jason, imagine their greatest fears come true and then fall into a coma. Lex, desperate to find a cure, takes a dangerous antidote. Meanwhile, the newly reformed Lionel's conviction is overturned thanks to a mysterious benefactor.

b: 01-Dec-2004 w: Kelly Souders & Brian Peterson d: David Carson

NOTE: The Lex hallucination uses a combination of reused footage from the first season episode Hourglass (spiffied up with some new CGI) and nuclear explosion footage from the movie Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (a Warner property).
Music by Mindy Smith (One Moment More).
Malcolm Stewart previously played a different character, Mr. Wilson (Jodi's Dad), in the first season episode Craving.

I thought Lex's nightmare was awesome. It actually had me on the edge of my seat because its so cool to see inside a villain's mind.

He causes a nuclear war and has a little smirk on his face. It's that same little smirk he gave Clark when Clark realized that Lex didn't get Lana's bf fired just because he's trying to protect her. It's not really a nightmare all.

[END SPOILER]

I read that quite differently. My take is that the vision is Lex's nightmare: that he'd be in charge and that the world would be destroyed, and that he'd be happy about it. That is, his nightmare is that he'd become a villain.

That's how I'd read it as well - Lex doesn't WANT to become a villian. This is a tragety we're watching, the fall of someone who could have been a great man and becomes superman's archnemesis.

Good call. Lex knows that he is capable of great evil, just like his father. The more he tries to fight it, the more his nature (not to mention fate) drags him down. Lex is the best part about the show. I've said it from day one. His relationship with Clark keeps me watching.
