Wheel of Time S3

I'm not surprised, they alienated a lot of book fans right off the bat. And while season 3 was better and had some great moments straight out of the books, the finale showed they were still going to undercut the best character moments from the story. And let's be real, even if the show had been loved by all they were never going to get 6-7 seasons. TV doesn't work that way anymore unfortunately.

It also created a lot of book fans, like me. I'd tried the series a decade ago and couldn't get past the first book. After the first two seasons, I picked it back up and now am on book 11. From my perspective, the changes they've made to accomodate the medium are mostly improvements.

No reason a series can't get 6-7 seasons if the audience is there. Amazon I think just didn't want to push it too hard because they're all in on RoP. I could see Apple picking up the rest of the series. Or possibly Sony even trying to really condense the rest of the story into 3 or 4 movies.

If none of that happens, Disney should immediately reboot the Skywalker Saga with the actor who played Rand as a young Anakin.

Even though I bounced off the show, I don't resent it mostly because of thia: it brought the books back into the cultural conversation and breathed some fresh life into the fandom. Heck, it kicked off another re-read for me starting with Pike's audiobook of Eye of the World.

The worst thing about the show being cancelled is that if someone ever does it again they won't start from where this show left off, they'll start all over again, we'll get just barely into the Dragon being active, and then it will be cancelled again.

Wow, wow wow. Just finished The Gathering Storm. What a ride. And just absolutely epic. Can't wait to finish the next two.

And got me thinking right off the bat, I bet, if Sony wanted, they could plan a film trilogy that just covers the final three books, but still uses the show as a prequel. Would be easy enough to catch the viewer up with the critical plot pieces in a LotR style prologue.

It is rather refreshing how Danderson really gets the plot moving hard and fast in the end.

The last few books are a very coherent trilogy...unfortunately, with roughly 3 million words of backstory built up, not sure how well they would work as a standalone.

I really do think the best approach in a visual medium would be Anime-style long form animation, something like the recent tour de force Frieren.

On the one hand, I agree, some of the epicness in Gathering Storm might not have been quite as epic without 3 million words before it. But on the other hand, feature films work different. A good director can take you to those heights very quickly.

I'd love to see an anime-stye long form animation, but I'd settle for the final 3 books as a trilogy in the hands of say Denis Villeneuve.
