Sneak Attack question

Would a gestalt rogue/spellthief get sneak attack from both classes, or just the one with the better progression?

I always thought that they would stack. Which is why taking one Assasin level is effective because it will increase your overall sneak attack/level. Am I wrong?

I think you're thinking of something else. A gestalt character gets benefits of both classes at the same time, instead of multiclassing.

A level of Assasin would increase your overall sneak attack, but a Gestalt Assasin/(other PrC that grants SA) would only get the better sneak attack progression.

And the Gestalt rules state that you shouldn't use PrC's that try to mimic multiple classes... YMMV

You get to have the best benefits of two classes at the same time. For example, a 3rd-level gestalt Fighter/Cleric would have the Fort Save, BAB, Hitpoints, and Feats of a 3rd level fighter. And it would have the Will Save, spells, and special abilities of the Cleric.

Gestalts are really only supposed to be used when you have less than 4 players.
