i may be tempted to try a truenamer (human), though i'll need to read up about Kalamar. is the class a problem (and no it isnt as bad as everyone says!)

alternatively, i was thinking of an incarnum-rlated class, if that fits in (probably an incarnate, maybe a half-hobgoblin... that sounds interesting)

Steinarr Skogsson, a Skaarna native woodsguide and priest of appropriate setting deity (CG or NG) of (nature, travel, or viking family and community.) (Fhokki human Ranger 1 / Cleric 1)

As a woodsguide and devotee of [deity], he has learned Merchant's Tongue and picked up a useful bits of knowledge of the area's animals, plants, geography, religions, and history. He is an accomplished tracker and healer. Kusta, his mount, was rescued by Steinarr when the horse was still young. Steinarr helped train the horse and the two are faithful friends.

As a native of the region, Steinarr has appropriate family and religious ties.
