So, anyone get the Iphone yet?

So far, so good. The keyboard has some smarts, and browsing is fine. I do UI research, and in this space it shines, and I look forward to combining it with some of my other research. Loved my old Treos/Handsprings/Pilots, but the iPhone hits a sweet spot for me.

I really want one, but I won't pay for one. Yet, anyways. Maybe when they come out with a 15GB+ model I'll think it's worth it--I want all my music on there, just like my iPod currently holds. Also, I think I'll hold out for two key features: 3g Internet and a freaking to-do list. Why they decided not to allow a simple to-do list, that syncs with Outlook/iCal is beyond my comprehension.

Yeah, I have a 20GB iPod and am in the market for the widescreen iPod when it inevitably hits this fall or next spring. I couldn't go back to 8 GB. I think I'll be an iPhone customer in a year or two, once it's as robust as my Treo in all the stuff it does.

But yeah, assuming Palm responds smartly -- a $500 Foleo isn't anywhere near the appropriate price point, and makes me worry about their iPhone response -- I may just stick with Treo, since mine is an absolute workhorse and critical to my job.

Anyone that depends on a Treo/Blackberry is probably advised to let the 1st gen get the bugs shaked out, new apps installed, interoperability solidified first. I really did need a new phone and it segues nicely w/ my research (and my music library is a paltry 6.6 GB), so there were not large impediments to my use.

I'm seriously considering getting one for my wife, since she runs around with three devices (Razor cell phone, 4G iPod nano, and Palm PDA) in her purse that could be replaced by this device. Plus we're already on an AT&T wireless plan (yuck!). She'd lose a few PDA features -- ones she doesn't use anyway -- and gain a lot of other utility. If it had an integrated GPS, it would be about perfect.

Out of interest, have you looked at the Nokia N95 for her? It sounds as if it hits all the right things (including the integrated GPS)

Cheers

No, but I'll check it out!

Edit: Neat device. The photo capability is fantastic for that integrated an item, though that is a feature that neither my wife nor I care for. GPS is nice. User interface seems a bit clunky ... and it's gone the wrong direction on price (+$150 over the 8G iPhone). I'll have to point her to this and competitive offerings, though.

Only if you cut off your head and replace it with the iPhone.

OMG! IT'S THE HEAD OF VECNA!!!! RUN!!! :uhoh:

It's something that they can put all this stuff on a phone and the phone usually still sounds like crap.

I considered it for about 30 seconds thinking I could get a NICE new phone and replace my very ancient (in technology years) iPod in one fell swoop and be cool, hip and with the in-crowd... right up until I saw that price tag. Then my eyes melted and I actually saw the limitations and downsides of it as well.

Yeah, I think I'll be waiting until at least the 2nd if not 3rd generation to reconsider.
