I started in 1978 with the Holmes "blue book" basic set.
The same, thereabouts. I picked it up about the same time as I picked up the white boxed set of the original rules, and eventuallly the supplements. Never used the white box, I graduallly moved to AD&D as they released the book (the Monster Manual was all that was out when I started.

...wow, I'm the newest. Summer of 1999, right after I got out of high school.

Never had an opportunity until then because my parents thought it was of the devil... once I was 18 they let me make my own mind up about it though. Which was nice. I did convince them otherwise, and my younger brother and I can play with no fear of hellfire.

Spring, 1984. I was a 3rd grader DMing for 4th and 5th graders (Moldvay Basic, Keep of the Borderlands). It went fairly well considering I'd never played before. Been fairly exclusively a DM ever since.

Quickly graduated to AD&D, and have more or less stuck with gaming ever since.

I know there are others here who've been playing longer than I have. I got started with my cousin during Christmas break of 1975 and have been playing near continuously since summer of '76. Didn't start DMing until summer of '80.
