Started in summer 1975 after reading a review of D&D in 'Games and Puzzles' magazine. Couldn't afford to buy the three-book white box set so we made our own rules up. First D&D book I bought was Greyhawk (although the first actual RPG was probably metamorphasis Alpha by James Ward, along with issue 4 of the Dragon).

So about 31 years for me. :)

Winter '77/'78 with a loaned copy of the PHB (which was returned to me a couple of years ago after having gone missing for over twenty years). I recently said in another thread that I had never played a monk but I now recall that's exactly what I did play in my first game.

1994, summer after high school (and the first real sustained campaign was that fall). Almost certainly would have been younger if I hadn't moved around so much...

Started in 84 when I was 10. My dad and his friends invited me to play in their game that had already been going for a few years (since 82 probably). It was a friday night. I remeber that I couldn't sleep when we got home after that first game because my head was full of ideas about flaming arrows, knights, and ruins in the jungle. The next morning I DMed my first game with two of my friends and everything after that is a blur.
