I played one through 9th level just for a break from the draconic sorcerer I had played previously.
Getting a free Darkness spell was nice because of how few spells sorcerers know, but I never thought it was worth 2 SP to cast unless I wanted to protect myself and others from "target you can see" spells from enemy casters. I wish it had stayed at 1 SP like in the UA playtest.
What was your experience with Strength of the Grave? I don't think I ever used it successfully and once we started fighting giants and such the DC was too high to even think about relying on this trait.
I mainly used the Shadow Hound to impose disadvantage on the target's saving throw against my spells in situations where I really wanted to stick an all or nothing spell like Banishment. It's the same 3 SP cost as Heightened metamagic, but the hound can continue to impose disadvantage on saves more than once, attack with pack tactics, knock enemies prone, and keep track of the target if it turns invisible. It compares favorably to Heightened metamagic but that's not saying much since I'd rather spend 3 SP on twinned Haste.
The 14th and 18th level abilities seem cool but I never got to use them.
