So, I bet that the d12 is getting kicked to the curb...

O.o

Huh? People pick up d8s instead of d10s, and d12s (or in several "Oops, I'm cheating!" moments, a d30) instead of d20s. d12s aren't shaped anything like d10s.

You d4 haters ought to visit your favorite local gaming store. The d4's I'm using are shaped a lot like stretched out d6's with two semi-rounded ends, so they can only land on 4 sides. Easy to read, no caltrop effect, and all and all very nice dice.
Barrel dice. I've got some full sets of them. -Very- nice dice.

Can we PLEASE not get rid of the d10? As much as I love the d12, I'd rather not see the d10 go the way of the dodo. It's my favorite die.

Plus, it makes for a nice even progression: d2-d4-d6-d8-d10-d12. We just need a d14, d16, d18 too. Though I'm not sure how the last 3 would work... but at least we'd have a die for every even step from d2 to d20.

I think a d12 is great for trap damage... spring loaded spears, boulders falling from the ceiling, and that sort of thing. I can't really say why I feel that way...it just seems like it makes them more dangerous but with an even spread of damage (as opposed to 2d6).

CRAP! Ive been caught!

Umm, I obviously need to get back in to D&D - a 2 month hiatus has rotted my brain.

Ptolus, my pretty, come back to me!

So yeah, ignore my obviously flawed post. DOWN WITH D8s and 12s!!! MUAA HAA HAA

Yay for using the d12 for months, hours, and zodiacal signs!

I also thought that rolling d8 + d12 to generate a number between 2 and 20 for 2nd edition encounter tables was kind of nifty.

Where's the love for the d30? The only use my d30 ever gets is when I decide to spin it like a top. And wow, can it spin! The d30 needs more love.

Man I remember the d30 from when I used to play Tales From The Floating Vagabond... Then my dice bag was stolen, and ever since I haven't come across a d30.

I'm with IceFractal: The d4 can die die die but keep your little grubby paws far away from the beautiful, easy-rolling d12.

As a matter of fact here's a vote for replacing all d4s with re-marked d12s. That's right, say it with me if you know the words: the d12 should kill the d4 and take its stuff.
the d12 should kill the d4 and take its stuff
the d12 should kill the d4 and take its stuff
the d12 should kill the d4 and take its stuff.....
Wise words indeed

24d4 for a great wyrm black dragon's breath? Are you f---ing kidding?
Hey, you know what's much nicer? Rolling 55+1d10 instead. The average of 24d4 is 60. The standard deviation on totals of 24d4 is only about 5.5, which is also about the average roll on 1d10. So you can use 60 +/-5.6 with a Poisson distribution centred around 60, or a straight 55-65, with an average of 60.5. Or, you can just use 60, if you prefer.

Is there any precedent for sacking a die-type from D&D? Because if not... I think messing with the core tools of the game is one of the few things you should not mess with.
