I just did a quick check of flight prices, and they come to $1200, so I guess I'm just going to have to wait till next year.

I think spontanous decisions to go to GenCon are right out for Europeans. Unless they really have too much money.

Question is, when is it wise to start looking for flights and hotel rooms?

In 2007 and 2008 I think I started looking in January, and kept checking prices until July when I booked. They didn't vary by much, so now is as good a time as any to book. It may be different flying from London, but from up here the choice of carriers is more limited, and a connecting flight to London adds nearly £100.
