So, I just picked up the first 3 seasons of Stargate SG-1...

At the same time, they are not as continuity-heavy as Buffy, Babylon 5, or Deep Space 9. If you miss an episode or two, you're not very likely to go "what the heck did I miss?" when you catch the next one. They manage to strike a very pleasing balance between stand-alone "reset" episodes and the heavy continuity on other shows.

I'm definitely going to second this. Except the DS9 Ferengi episodes... ugh.

Anyway, Stargate is by no means on the same level as something like BSG or Babylon 5, or for a better comparison, Farscape or DS9. It's by no means Andromeda though. Personally, I find it rather light watching, and aside from the recent SG1 eppy, I've pretty much stopped watching it, prefering something a little less... fluffy is the word I would use, I guess.

Also, I've always thought that last season was a pretty decent idea of high/epic-level play in 3E... everyone is kind of doing their own thing, but they come together once in a while, and it's a lot more politics than anything.

If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to watch the movie first. Some things from the series won't make as much sense without it.
