So it's finally happened? D&D reduced to board games...

Nope, they never tried anything like that... twice.
Can't believe I forgot Spellfire...

Also, Paizo's sales numbers aren't remotely approaching WotC's for D&D. This entire thing was started with this article which is an informal poll of hobby stores asking which was selling better. It doesn't quote actual sales numbers, actual print run numbers, or any other solid data. It also doesn't count mainstream bookstores like Borders and Barnes & Noble and does not count Amazon sales. It also doesn't distinguish between sourcebook/module sales and core rulebook sales.

D&D has always and will always have the edge in the pen and paper roleplaying market. It has brand recognition that other games would KILL to have. For good or for ill, it's part of pop culture and is having a resurgence. No one's running around wearing Shadowrun or Vampire: The Masquerade t-shirts...they're wearing D20s. I tell my hipster friends I'm playing Pathfinder and they have no idea what I'm talking about even if I try to explain it...unless I say "it's like Dungeons and Dragons". I say I'm playing Dungeons and Dragons, they're curious and may want to play (that's how I got two players for my current campaign).

Yes, we must go back to the crappy days of Dragonstrike and The Dragon's Den set and can't have decent board games like Wrath of Ashadarlon.
