SO: sick of drow? Let's create a new nation of evil elves.

This is the month of the drow threads, so I feel authorized to start my own.

Personally, I am sick of the Drow Yet. So my suggestion here will be: lets create another race of elves to replace the Drow. As one already pointed out:

There are no drow IMC. The role of the evil elves is more than aptly filled by High Elves. People who call themselves the "High whatever" just reek of arrogant villainy.

Note: this thread is more for the fluff point of view, rather than to get new game mechanics (which belong to Houserules section). So lets describe a new race of elves who will take the role normally given to drow. And beware: no overpowered munchkins! No need for new game mechanics, it's just an elf, with maybe a few tweaks in the racial traits. I am sick of players who choose drow PCs for muchkin reasons, and then want to play a "good drow" .

I wait for your suggestions: it may be a sub-race, it may be normal elves but a different kingdom, or maybe just a city gathering evil elves outcasts? Let's create something new but interesting! They don't need to be dark-skinned. Why not albinos? Will they be another Melniboneans?

If I used elves in the campaign I'm designing, they would probably greatly resemble githyanki in character.

IIRC the Mystara Gaz on "Shadow Elves" was pretty cool -- a nondrow bunch of elfies with a cool perspective on things.

But in my own campaign, the so-called Lios Alfar ("Light Elves") are "fire elves" (from UA) who are arrogant racist bastards who want the plague of humanity to be wiped from the earth. Yet they are incredibly smart, and hide this fact from their short-lived -- but more numerous -- compatriots.

The Svart Alfar ("Dark Elves") are actually the GOOD elves (they basically correspond to "High Elves") who were vanquished ages ago.

Of course, humans being the dupes that they are, are willing to cooperate with the Lios Alfar, and think they are swell (if arrogant) fellows. Naturally, they have no idea that the Lios Alfar are secretly plotting their demise.

My players have no idea.

I don't mean one another additional elven sub-race. I mean a nation of evil elves that will replace the drow (who thus don't exist anymore) in the campaigns of those who are tired of drow.

No need to create a new race. I say a new nation, a new culture.

Cool idea! (And I had forgotten about the UA variants. They are fine to simulate a new race of elves. No need for houserules!)

Hmm... let's see. How about this?

There once was a kingdom of elves, but some of them turned their back to the true way and started to follow the dark gods. Over time, the kingdom of elves split into two and open war evolved. The true elves, which had not went off the path, prayed to their gods and someday the elven pantheon decided it was enough and transformed the wrongdoers forever for their sins, they and every generation following them would be of the darkest of dark colors in skin with white hair, opposite to the usually dark hair of the elves, a twisted image of the true elves. Also, they would squirm in the sight of sunlight and had to cower in dark caverns beneath the earth. There, deep below the surface, they continued to pray to their dark gods and over the centuries their hatred was nurtured and grew further and further. One of the greatest evils of all times was born.

I think in the background of Shadowbane (a MMORPG), the elves are also more or less evil oppressors. Not entirely sure, tho.
