D&D 5E So, what are your plans now?

This is basically a question for those who, like me, are playing the game using the playtest rules (other opinions are welcome, anyway).

Obviously, we knew that some news should be coming soon, but now we have solid reasons to believe that the starter set will be here by July and that the PHB will follow in August, maybe just in time for a GenCon "prerelease". So, pick an option to tell what you intend to do after the finished game finally releases.

For myself, I'll try to wrap up my current campaign in time for the August release, and start fresh with the finished version of the new game.

I believe that the final version will be close enough to the playtest rules that all the current adventures will work just fine. I am currently running the Sundering adventures for my group. We just finished Murder in Baldur's Gate and will be moving on to Legacy of the Crystal Shard in 2 weeks.

I plan on converting all the PCs in my game to the final version of the rules when they come out and just continuing to run the game as if nothing changed. I'll use the final version of monsters if they are available, but other than that, I think not much will change in my game.

My position hasn't changed since the last poll in this vein, but the poll has!

Other: I will continue to run my game(s) in 4e until they are done. This may take month (in one case) to years (in the other one). After that I'll decide on a different game system; D&DN is one option of many. Based on the playtest material I don't see any points which urge me to play it. I'll get the starter set when I return from holidays at the end of July, but only if word on the board is not "Oh no! What a sham! It's just one adventure disguised as RPG!".

As it stands right now I'm seriously considering taking another D&D vacation. I might run the occasional one shot of Dungeon World or 13th Age, but the play priorities of the current designers don't really match up with what I want out of the game. Initially I was hopeful that modularity might help me wrangle the game into something I find useful. I have significant doubts now.

I'll buy the starter set and the books, but probably won't play for a while because I don't have an active gaming group at the moment. I might go out and find a game, though.

Little changes for me. I keep on playing what I have been of late: Pathfinder, especially Pathfinder Society, The One Ring, and Edge of Empire. I think there might even be a Numenera game in the works.

If/when I get together with my friends from NW Ohio, I'll play what they are playing: 4E, Legend of the Five Rings, Savage Worlds.

I am excited to see what kind of game Next is. I even look forward to playing it at some conventions and gamedays, if they have a strong "Living" campaign. That said my days of buying everything WotC makes are done. No Attack Wing for me; I 'm perfectly happy with X-Wing. No D&D miniatures; I'm content with my subscription to Paizo's miniatures line. And if they try to sell me collectible cards to give me in-game benefits, I might even quit buying the RPG books. I hate those cards.

Wait and see. It really depends on what content is available in the basic (starter?) set and/or the cost of PDFs of the PHB, DMG, MM; plus, how the rest of my group feels about the game.

I've still got to finish up my 4E campaign. We began it when 4E was released, and the PCs are 29th level now - in a few months, the story will be over and I can think about other things.

I might run a small mini-campaign before Next is properly released, but otherwise I'll be happily starting a D&D Next campaign once the PHB is released.

I'm running an enjoyable WFRP 2E campaign now. I am sure I will buy the books. I'll decide if I am going to run it after the current campaign runs it course. I'm in no hurry.

I imagine a ton of other folks are in my shoes. WOTC will get their money from me at least initially. Then it will be wait and see. I'm in a good spot gaming-wise these days.
