So, what did YOU get for Christmas?

Got four books. "The Shadow Rising" 4th book in WoT series, "Rhapsody" by Elizabeth Hayden, first book in Tad Williams series "Memory, Sorrow and Thorn", and finally......"An endless quest book #10 'Circus of Fear' D&D choose your own adventure style book". Remember these?

Hey, anyone read "Rhapsody" or "The Dragonbone Chair"? Are they good? Which series should I start reading first?

Anyways, I'm very thankful to have friends that know I'm into fantasy and stuff.:D

I got the 007 Collector's Edition DVD boxed set, The Producers on DVD (one of the funniest movies ever made :D ), Robert E. Howard's Conan Chronicles Vol 1. and 2. from Gollancz Publishing, and the joy of seeing my 2 year old daughter on Christmas morning - it's the first one where she knows what's going on.. :)

Not a bad Christmas.

I haven't read Rhapsody, but I have read The Dragon Bone Chair and the followup. Unfortunately I haven't finished reading the last book, but I will... someday, when I have time. Anyway, it is definitely worth reading. In many ways its like a retelling of the Lord of the Rings with some very familliar elements, but Tad Williams does a lot of reinventing of those familliar elements. Its not the fastest moving series of books in the world, but the amount of it I have read has been very satisfying.

On another subject: the only new piece of clothing I got this year, after the end of the Fall semester, is a scarf knitted by one of my students. It keeps me warm in more than one way.

Your kids knitting scarves for you?!? Parbleu. They must get your jokes, then. But remember the golden rule: Date them only AFTER class has ended... :D

Re. fellowships, the reason I'm lazy these days is that I got the jackpot... 2 years in L.A., free apartment, fully funded, that should take care of the diss... about time, because after 5 years in NYC I was essentially destitute, fellowship or no. Can't you grab a Chateaubriand? At least the language test should be no problem. Or is it only for US citizens? Ah, the irony. :D

PS: Kick Denis Hollier in the butt for me.

Er? Season Three doesn't come out until Jan 7. I'd love to have thr first five seasons right now. Just got done with Season Two and I'm like 'Arrrgghhh -- must see more!'. Been hearing about this show for years, then finally bought the Season One DVD set since it was on sale. Hooked, instantly.

In Europe they have up to Season 5 realeased as well as Angel seasons. We in the states have to wait.

I got some LotR, Scorpion King, and DVD to mke named, three CDs, and some books.

Elfquest Readers Collection volumes 1 to 9d... My old elfquests are almost dead from being read, and this is a welcome gift.

A Zojirushi 10-cup rice cooker

3 new dragon shirts

A bath robe

Nobilis

A sukiyaki pan

A korean bbq grill plate for the stove

A KA-Bar knife (For which I gave the giver a quarter, before you ask. I know the tradition)

The joys of having three families crammed into one house for a holiday... lots of stuff. The hell of having three families crammed into one house... going broke buying stuff for everyone.

Of all of it, I think I love the rice cooker the most... though the KA-Bar is nifty too (For all my vast hoard of bladed weapons, this is something I didn't have until now).

What's kinda fun is that I'm a 21 year old guy...sitting on the floor like a little kid... grinning madly at pans and a kitchen apliance, while a couple of relatives around my age are leeching my x-box to play games they got, and looking at me strangely. Ahhh, to be different :)

Also got the joy of being around family... though I don't get along with all of them sometimes, it was still nice to see them.

Yeah, well, I know, but none of them was interested this semester. :p The semesters before that, some were, but classes over or not, I've always avoided.

It is indeed only for US citizens.
