So, who's interested in D20 Modern?

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Armour as DR, the attribute focused hero classes, all of the things which are very *different* to standard D&D.

AFAIK these rules are the same they are going to use in the Revised Edition (what a White Wolf ripe-off! :) ) of Star Wars d20, releasing date May 2002. So you will be able to see them soon...

RE: d20 Modern
I'm kind of iffy on the some of the stats provided in the lite rules. For example, some of the pistols' range increment is awfully shorter than a primitive ranged weapon (e.g., bow, composite bow). Is this correct?
Yes.
(Most) Pistols are not very good at long range.
I'm working on my own firearm rules so I've run into the same odd thing.
Here's an example, a 9mm Beretta M92 has an effective range of 165 feet, this means a decent shot can shoot a target about 60-80% of the time at this range.
So if we take that to mean it's 60% at 165 feet then we can use it to figure out the range increments for d20.
So it should have (around) 40-80 foot range increments depending on if you base it on it being 60% or 80% effective.
so on the 4th increment (60%) it would be about the same as the effective range 160ft.
As firearms use more powerful ammo and longer barrels their effective range can be much better then a bow.
A 5.56x45mm NATO M-16A4 has an effective range of around 1,300 feet.
And a .50 BMG Barrett M82A1 has an effective range of around 5,000 feet.

It looks kinda cool but I'm skeptical as to how good a "generic" d20 system can be. Especially after using the Hero system for so many years it's gonna be a tough sell for me.

I just don't think the d20 system can translate into everything smoothly.

Well, after checking out the news on the front page, I'll definately give d20 modern a look. This is the kind of thing that d20 is supposed to be for. I see no reason to dismiss it out of hand.

I'm looking forward to Spycraft/Shadowforce Archer, but I'm ambivalent about a modern fantasy setting. It just doesn't click for me.

When I saw "D20 Modern" + Bill Slavicsek, I instantly thought "Alternity has risen from the grave! Hallelujah!" :) And that Shadow Chasers thing has a very Dark Matter feel (though kind of Dark Matter "lite" actually).

I agree. It may give me a reason to break out that old Dark Matter book though. :D

Hmmmmmm......

Personally, I'm hoping the 'd20 Modern' thing is eventually gonna result in a NEW Dark*Matter book to 'break out.' I considered it to be the best 'modern-age' setting to be released since...well, ever.
