Only if the rules can provide the witty repartee. :D

This is what you do: Have everyone come up with 10 lines of witty repartee & bring them to the next session on slips of paper or index cards or whatever. Before the session, mix them up & redistribute them randomly. Whenever a player makes an appropriate (or just funny) use of one of their lines, they earn 100XP.

While it could be interesting, I don't see this happening. I think it will be too complicated. PCs learn different fighting styles, learning additional ones at hgiher levels, maybe like feats. If there are 10 different fighting styles, you end up with a matrix of 55 possible combinations. If the attack and defense bonuses are different, it gets even more complicated. Now, you also need a way to identify which style the opponent is using - a new skill called Swordcraft. You get a bonus on the check if you know the style yourself. Now, you change styles to counter your opponent. Your opponent makes a check to determine your new style and changes to counter your change - and on and on it goes. If you add in terrain effects, more than one opponent using different styles etc. it becomes more and more complicated.

I don't know about any pdf product that works sorta like Bo9S here, but you might want to check out barsoomcore's Swashcards for some of this type of action.

Good stuff.

I think that could be gloriously fun. It's not really that much different than wizards and clerics applying the myriad of spells then have now. And the most complicated parts would only come into play when two experienced swordsmen clashed -- for most opponents the system would work much as it does now.

Dying Earth RPG FTW.

It even has a list of general-purpose lines directly from Vance, which you can use when you can mix up with your own adventure-specific lines.

"First, I must inquire, how profound is your knowledge?"
"A variety of deaths by contrasting processes may well enter into your punishment."
"The question regarding hidden valuables again becomes relevant."

And so on.
