Jon and Dany must meet, because Jon has the sword from her knight. At the moment I read, that the commander's son was the knight at Dany's side, I knew, that Jon and Dany will meet at some point. :)

Bah, Martin is so predictable. :p ;)

I don't think Jon ever got that paper though and I do not believe he was aware of it. Does anyone know of it? Did Greyjoy or the Bolton's intercept it?

I suspect it got to Maester Aemon just fine, but he's blind and didn't read it.

Sam could have read it to him, but Sam was away... and then Sam was kinda busy.

Jon could have read it himself... but Jon was kinda busy.

I expect we'll see some reaction to it in the next book (well, the book after next).

Maybe; A Dance with Dragons is already half written, detailing the other half of the world. What knows what the other half will detail?

I think the letter proclaiming Jon as rightful heir is moot, frankly. I can see Jon and Dany's meeting being fairly bloody; she hasn't shown craftiness to hold someone hostage (who would pay for his ransom anyway?).

The Jon and Dany meeting and falling in love seems too hackney to me; too much like traditional fantasy. A temporary alliance where she back-stabs him would work ;)

Just because it's visible and set-up doesn't mean GRRM won't be able to do it really, really well, and surprise us in execution and mechanic even if he doesn't surprise us in overplot.

I think it more likely Jon "takes" one of her dragons somehow - Drogon perhaps (black - he IS a crow, after all). Build from there.

"We'll see"

I like that idea; works for me.

As mentioned, I'm not putting it past Martin to do something predictable as a romance. I'm just hoping he'll explore new directions and keep the body count high ;)
