D&D 5E (2024) Solasta 2 and the 1/2 elf

Eberron’s half-elves, the Khoravar, will be in the upcoming Eberron book, Forge of the Artificer.

The Solasta devs might be able to use the Khoravar mechanics for half-elves in their game.

Nah. They're limited to what's in the new SRD; Khoravar mechanics won't be.

They can homebrew their own half-elf mechanics if they want to, but it'll probably be missing the only half-elf mechanic that mechanical optimizers really want, which is the one where their ability score bonuses are better than everyone else's.

There where other editions where the h.elf l/h.oc wasn't that good of a race and people still played alot of them. Right now I let people use which ever race they want and reflavor it as a half elf or half orc. I do have a problem with the exclusion of basic choices all of a sudden. Especially when you have wotc then put out a book on drizzles half elf daughter.

Half-elf has always been my go-to race for fantasy games that offered it, even before 5e made it a particularly strong choice. Removing them from the game was a mistake for D&D and will be a mistake for Solasta 2.

I would definitely allow the half-elf if my group ever moves to 5.5E. We have had a lot of half-elves on the games we've played and the decision to remove them was (in my opinion) a great example of a small number of people asking for something and just having it happen.

RAW, the half-elf race from the 2014 PHB or the SCAG works, with the notable and unfortunate exception of it losing its total of +4 ability bonuses and needing to use the same +3 as every 2024 background. Effectively, it is a gimped human who took skilled at first level, and swapped out the second origin feat for immunity to charm and magical sleep. Workable, somewhat weak but I've played one in 2024 and it didn't really ruin the game (I don't think it's weaker than the updated dwarf, for instance) and perfectly cromulent for Solasta.
