Well, it means initial demand is good.

Things can still blow up. Things can ALWAYS still blow up in the business world. Fads are dangerous because someone always gets caught holding the bag. Or unsold books in some cases.

Edit: Not implying I think 4th edition is a fad. Just that it's premature to break out the champaign to 15 years of 4th edition based on pre-sales :)

I totally agree and I wish WotC lots of luck with 4E.

That said, I think its a good thing that there will be those supporting the customers they are leaving behind. It's a win-win really.

According to the owner of my FLGS: It's not a real surprise the core rulebooks will sell well. The true test will be if people like it enough to keep picking up supplements every few months after the cores get absorbed into the community.
